Classic Volvo P1800ES is reborn as a five-cylinder turbo restomod

Autofarma Norrsken Volvo P1800ES

Dutch company Autoforma has revealed a modified and modernised version of the classic Volvo P1800ES shooting brake.

A new division of Niels van Roij Design, Autoforma has collaborated with fellow Netherlands-based firm Volvo Lotte to create the dramatic Norrsken restomod.

Named after the Swedish word for the Aurora Borealis, the Norrsken is said to deliver ‘clarity, calm intensity and beauty born from restraint’.

Each car will be built to the buyer’s individual specification, with three distinctive design directions on offer.

In addition, Autoforma and Volvo Lotte will deliver a comprehensive performance makeover, intended to retain an analogue driving experience while improving reliability and ease of use.

Meet the Autoforma Norrsken

The new Volvo restomod is named after the Swedish word ‘Norrsken’, meaning ‘Northern Light’ or ‘Aurora Borealis’

Dutch designer Niels van Roij is undoubtedly a fan of shooting brakes. Last year, he revealed ‘Henry II’, a coachbuilt Rolls-Royce Corniche. A Tesla Model S shooting brake is also in the firm’s back catalogue.

Autoforma has subtly enhanced the Volvo’s styling, with redesigned bumpers, a new front grille and the option of a carbon fibre front splitter with integrated LED fog lights.

More carbon fibre can be used for the wheelarch extensions. A neat rear spoiler above the glass tailgate is optional, too.

Buyers have a choice of exterior brightwork finished in chrome, silver or anthracite, along with two forged alloy wheel designs. A roof rack can provide some traditional Scandinavian practicality.

Turbocharged Volvo T-5 power available

Autofarma Norrsken Volvo P1800ES

As part of the design process, buyers can select one of three design themes. Heritage Heaven focuses on period-correct colours and materials, subtly updating the original P1800ES. Mechanical changes are aimed at boosting reliability, rather than outright performance.

Modern Marvel spec introduces discreet changes such as modern LED lighting, new suspension components, extra horsepower and a more progressive colour palette.

The most dramatic option is Forward Fashionista spec, which offers bold colours, new materials and a comprehensive mechanical overhaul. This includes fitting Volvo’s legendary turbocharged five-cylinder T-5 engine, along with upgraded brakes, a quicker steering rack and a twin-exit exhaust system.

Only five cars per year planned

Autofarma Norrsken Volvo P1800ES

Following the announcement of the new restomod, Niels van Roij commented: “Norrsken reflects the essence of Scandinavian and Dutch design: restraint, honesty in materials and beauty through purpose. Every decision serves both heritage and everyday usability.”

Production of the Norrsken will be capped at five cars each year, due to the near-endless customisation options available.

Regardless of whether a customer chooses Heritage Heaven, Modern Marvel or Forward Fashionista, each car will be tailored to their unique specification.

In its most radical Forward Fashionista guise, prices for the Norrsken will start from €300,000 excluding taxes (approximately £261,000).

Renault Twingo E-Tech Electric

Polestar and Renault have been named the latest winners of the AUTOBEST 2026 Awards for excellence in automotive.

The 32 jurors from across Europe – including Motoring Research’s Richard Aucock representing the UK – awarded the ECOBEST 2026 Award to the Renault Twingo E-Tech Electric.

The award is presented to vehicles set to make a meaningful impact in terms of environmental performance and innovation. It is usually awarded a year ahead of a new car’s launch, making it perfectly timed for the planned 2027 introduction of the new Renault Twingo.

The jurors praised the Twingo’s “strong contribution to highly accessible and practical urban electromobility,” and considered it “a strong symbol of democratised electric mobility for European cities”.

Polestar scoops SMARTBEST 2026

Polestar Google Maps Live Lane Guidance

Polestar has won the SMARTBEST 2026 Award for its clever integration of Google Maps’ live lane guidance directly into the driver’s display.

Debuting on the clever Polestar 4, this tech uses AI and vehicle camera data to highlight the correct lanes to take during navigation. It’s especially useful during complex merges, multi-lanes exits and heavy urban traffic, “taking the guesswork out of following sat nav instructions”.

The system is debuting first in the US and Sweden, and will follow in the UK later – Motoring Research will be among the first to test the new award-winning Polestar tech when it arrives in the UK.

AUTOBEST 2026 winners to be celebrated

The latest two awards mean all nine AUTOBEST Award categories for 2026 have been selected.

The winners will now be celebrated during an AUTOBEST Awards Ceremony in Vienna on 19 March. The lunchtime event will bring together execs and CEOs of the winning companies alongside European and international media, “to celebrate excellence and innovation in the automotive industry”.

Again, Motoring Research’s Richard Aucock will be there – come back next month for all the news from Europe’s top automotive awards initiative.

Honda and Chevrolet make multi-year commitment to IndyCar

0
A new agreement with IndyCar will also see Honda and Chevrolet receive charters to run their own single-car teams from 2028

IndyCar has announced that both Honda and Chevrolet have made a multi-year commitment to remain involved with the race series.

Both companies will continue as official Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to the NTT IndyCar Series, supplying engines for the 2027 season and beyond.

The new commitment means the OEMs will provide teams with 2.2-liter turbocharged V-6 engines – now combined with a low-voltage hybrid system since the 2024 season – until the end of 2027.

In addition, Honda and Chevrolet will play pivotal roles in developing the next generation of IndyCar engines.

The plan is for a bespoke 2.4-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 with hybrid assistance, which will join an all-new replacement chassis for 2028.

As a reward for the financial investment from Honda and Chevrolet, IndyCar will grant both OEMs their own single-car team charter for the 2028 season and beyond.

This allows each manufacturer to field an individual factory entry in the IndyCar series. The OEMs will likely partner with an existing team, but with greater involvement in how their cars will be operated.

Rewarding OEMs with their own team charters is also seen as a way to encourage a third engine supplier to enter the series.

“As charter entrants in 2028, Chevrolet and Honda now have a new and exciting opportunity to build on their incredible legacies across Indycar Series racing, while continuing their strong relationships with our current roster of teams and helping deliver an innovative and industry-leading new car in 2028,” said IndyCar president, Doug Boles.

“A monumental day for Indycar”

“This is a monumental day for IndyCar, fueled by a massive and historic commitment from two of our best and most trusted partners,” added Boles.

“Chevrolet and Honda have worked tirelessly with us over the last 12 months to get to this point, and both have made it very clear that they are fully committed to this sport and invested in continuing the positive momentum the series generated in 2025.”

Honda has participated in the IndyCar Series since 1994, acting as the sole engine supplier for the championship between 2006 and 2011. In recent years, Honda has powered Alex Palou to all four of his Drivers’ Championships.

Making its return to IndyCar racing in 2012, Chevrolet has since collected nine championship trophies, plus multiple Indianapolis 500 wins.

The 18-round 2026 NTT IndyCar Series begins on Sunday 1 March 2026, with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in Florida.

BMW to celebrate 50 years of Art Cars at Bathurst

0
The 2026 Bathurst 12 Hour race will see BMW attempting to defend its 1-2 finish at last year’s event

BMW is commemorating 50 years of its groundbreaking Art Car Collection with a special livery for this weekend’s Bathurst 12-Hour race in Australia.

The no. 32 BMW M4 GT3 Evo, entered by Team WRT, will wear a design influenced by an Art Car with a deliberately Antipodean twist.

In 1989, Australian artist Ken Done used a BMW M3 Group A touring car as his canvas for the eighth vehicle in the Art Car Collection.

Said to represent modern Australia, Done’s design was unmistakably bold. The artist commented at the time: “I have painted parrots and parrot fish. Both are beautiful and able to move at fantastic speeds. I wanted my BMW Art Car to express the same qualities”.

The M4 GT3 Evo – driven by Jordan Pepper, Kelvin van der Linde and Charles Weerts – will wear a colour scheme almost identical to Done’s original for Sunday’s endurance race.

A rapidly moving BMW artwork

BMW Bathurst 12 Hour Ken Done Art Car

With the BMW Art Car Collection celebrating its 50th anniversary during 2025, the German manufacturer embarked on a World Tour to share its greatest moving artworks with the public.

This included an appearance at the 2025 Goodwood Revival, along with a more recent display at the 2026 Retromobile show in Paris.

Opting for a motorsport tribute livery seems particularly apt, as many of the first BMW Art Car designs were applied to racing cars.

The original Art Car, a BMW 3.0 CSL painted by Alex Calder, was entered into the 1975 24 Hours of Le Mans. Although it failed to make the finish of the French endurance classic, the excitement created by Calder’s dramatic design convinced BMW to commission more Art Cars.

Famous artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and David Hockney have all applied their own creativity to BMW models during the 50-year Art Car programme.

‘Colour, energy and performance’

BMW Bathurst 12 Hour Ken Done Art Car

Ahead of the liveried M4 racing at Bathurst, Ken Done said: “I’m really looking forward to the weekend race to see the artwork for the BMW Art Car I painted brought to the racetrack.

“There’s no more powerful place for that than on a circuit like Mount Panorama. It is wonderful to see colour, energy and performance coming together again through BMW M Motorsport.”

Last year, BMW Team WRT scored an impressive 1-2 finish in the Bathurst 12-Hour event, with the no. 32 M4 GT3 claiming the top step on the podium, ahead of its no. 46 sister car.

BMW will hope the Australian-inspired livery helps to repeat the same success. The no. 32 BMW has set the fastest time in the first free practice session, so it certainly has enough speed to win at Mount Panorama this weekend.

How to drive safely in heavy rain

0
Ford Fusion in the rain

Heavy rain is a staple of British weather, but it poses real challenges for drivers – potentially increasing the risk of accidents.

In wet conditions, braking distances will be much longer than on dry roads. This is primarily because your car’s tyres have less grip.

The ‘two-second rule’ for leaving a gap to the car in front no longer applies. Instead, the Highway Code recommends drivers allow at least twice the stopping distance on wet roads.

Further advice for driving in heavy rain includes:

  • If the car’s steering becomes unresponsive, it probably means excess water is preventing the tyres from making proper contact the road. This is called aquaplaning. Ease off the accelerator and slow down gradually, maintaining a firm grip of the steering wheel. The car will regain its grip as the water clears.
  • Rain and spray may make it difficult to see other vehicles – and for them to see you.
  • Diesel spills can make the road surface very slippery, especially after a prolonged period of dry weather.
  • Take extra care around pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and horse riders.

Richard Gladman of IAM RoadSmart said: “With the British weather the way it is, we should all be well practised at driving in the rain. Keeping your car maintained and the rubber (tyres and wiper blades) in good condition will help you stay safe.

“We have seen that standing water and floods are becoming more commonplace, so take extra care and, if possible, avoid driving through standing water. If you’re in any doubt about the depth or surface underneath a flood, then it’s best not to take any chances.”

More tips for driving in the rain

A car speeds through a rain-soaked street, creating a large splash. Motion blur highlights the dynamic movement of water against the vehicle.

As winter looms, IAM RoadSmart has the following additional advice for driving in the rain – including what to do if the road is flooded.

  • If you need windscreen wipers, you need your headlights. Automatic lights may not activate in bad weather, as it could still be bright outside, so make a sensible decision about whether to turn them on. Daytime running lights are not suitable for heavy rain, especially as your rear lights may not be illuminated.
  • Keep your windscreen clean, the wipers in good condition, and the washer jets positioned correctly.
  • If you approach a flood, ask yourself some questions. For example:
    • Can you find an alternative route? If the standing water is more than six inches deep, avoid driving through it. If in doubt, stay out.
    • What caused the flood? If it was a burst water main, the road surface may be completely broken up.
    • Are other vehicles able to get through? If not, look for an alternative route, using sat nav if needed.
    • Is the water fast-flowing? If it is, do not drive through the flood – there’s a danger your car could be swept away.
  • If you drive through standing water, do so slowly. Press lightly on the clutch and add gentle pressure on the accelerator to increase engine revs. Do so without increasing your speed to prevent water from entering the exhaust pipe. When you have passed through the flood, test your brakes to make sure they are dry and operating correctly.
  • Remember, you could receive a fixed penalty and three points on your licence for accidentally splashing pedestrians. Do it deliberately and you could receive a court order and a fine.

9 surprising ways to cut the cost of car insurance

0
Our guide reveals nine surprising and often straightforward ways to cut the cost of your car insurance.

Car insurance is one of the unavoidable costs of motoring. It’s a legal requirement to have at least third-party cover if you drive a vehicle on the public road.

The latest figures from the Association of British Insurers (ABI) show the average cost of an annual car insurance policy in the UK is £551. However, that figure will vary hugely depending on your age, address, choice of car and driving experience. But there are other, less obvious, ways to reduce your annual car insurance premium.

Here are nine surprising ways to cut the cost of car insurance, with help from Moneyshake and Uswitch.

Get married

Get married

An insurance premium could be slashed by up to £200 for a married couple in their thirties. Research shows that single drivers are twice at risk of having a road accident as somebody who is married.

Even if you’re not ready to tie the knot, some insurance companies offer discounts for couples who live together, so it’s worth shopping around for quotes.

Obviously, if you blow £23,700 on your nuptials (the average cost of getting hitched in the UK, according to the National Wedding Survey), those savings may not exactly add up…

Add your parents to the policy

Couple searching for a used car

Adding a responsible driver with a clean record to your policy could reduce your premium. Indeed, you could save hundreds of pounds by including your parents as named drivers.

However, named drivers must only use the car occasionally, not on a regular basis. Otherwise you are at risk of invalidating the insurance policy due to so-called ‘fronting’.

Insurance fraud could leave you liable for any costs that arise due to a collision or claim, too.

Decrease your voluntary excess

Reduce your insurance excess

The voluntary excess is the amount of money you’re prepared to pay upfront in the event of a claim, which is agreed in advance when you take out the insurance policy.

You’d be forgiven for thinking that increasing your excess would reduce your annual premium, as it leaves the insurance company with less to pay out.

On the contrary, says Moneyshake: halving your voluntary excess from £500 to £250 can make your policy 25 percent cheaper. Win-win.

Tweak your job title

Gordon Ramsay Ferrari

While it’s important to tell the truth about your profession, getting creative with your job title could save you hundreds of pounds.

Uswitch said a chef will pay around 40 percent more than somebody with the job title of ‘cook’, for example. Let’s just call that one the ‘Gordon Ramsay effect’.

In truth, the reason is that premiums are based on historical data, so chefs have made more car insurance claims in the past than cooks.

Adjust your mileage

When you’re arranging cover, you will be asked to provide an estimate of your annual mileage. In general, the lower the mileage, the less you will pay.

It’s easy to get an approximate figure – just look at the distance covered between one MOT test and the next.

That said, the savings from reducing this figure aren’t huge. And you need to be careful when estimating your mileage, as going over the limit may incur excess charges. The same is true if you have an annual mileage limit on your car finance agreement.

Invest in new technology

Dashcam use in the UK

Insurance companies are encouraging policyholders to invest in new technology. Drivers with dash cams, for instance, usually save between 10 and 12.5 percent a year. This could be as much as 20 percent for young drivers.

GPS trackers, mechanical immobilisers and steering locks could also help to cut the cost of car insurance. However, Moneyshake found that adding a tracking device and locking wheel nuts could actually make your premium go up.

Check with your existing provider before making any changes. You don’t want your money-saving efforts to backfire.

Being registered on the electoral roll will improve your credit score, which could lower the cost of your car insurance. Experian says that registering to vote is a sign of stability, so lenders are more likely to support your application for credit.

Typically, appearing on the electoral roll at your current address will add 50 points to your Experian credit score, which could be used to determine your level of risk by a car insurer.

Don’t keep your car garaged

Maserati driving courses

Yes, you read that right. Research from Moneyshake showed that parking on the street outside your home instead of in a garage brought down insurance quotes by an average of 30 percent.

The thinking, perhaps, is that cars can easily be damaged when manoeuvring in and out of a garage.

Have MORE insurance cover

Have more insurance cover

This one also seems counter-intuitive. Bur insurance quotes with third-party, fire and theft cover can be 50 percent more expensive than a comprehensive policy.

This may be due to higher-risk drivers keeping their costs low by opting for third-party cover. Provided you can go fully comprehensive, this one is another win-win.

Above all, shop around, don’t rely solely on car insurance comparison sites and tailor your policy carefully to ensure the best value for money.

New BYD Atto 3 Evo electric SUV: what you need to know

0
A single battery option with a capacity of 78.4kWh means the BYD Atto 3 Evo can cover up to 317 miles when fully charged

Fast-growing Chinese car brand BYD has announced a comprehensive overhaul of its Atto 3 electric family SUV.

First launched in the UK three years ago, BYD has thoroughly reworked the Atto 3 to boost performance, battery range and even luggage space.

Named the Atto 3 Evo, the revised SUV can potentially offer acceleration that matches its namesake of sorts: the classic Mitsubishi Lancer Evo saloon.

Executive vice president of BYD, Stella Li, said: “The Atto 3 Evo proves how big a step we can make as a brand in less than three years.

“We’ve distilled our EV innovations and our latest technologies into a package that has already proven popular with buyers across Europe. And the result is another standout offering in the class: powerful, efficient and packed with useful features. It’s not a car, it’s a BYD.”

Quicker than many hot hatchbacks

2026 BYD Atto 3 Evo

The most dramatic change for the Atto 3 is abandoning the current model’s front-wheel-drive layout. The new Evo is available with rear- or all-wheel drive only.

All versions of the Atto 3 Evo come with a 78.4kWh battery and 800-volt electrical architecture, offering DC charging speeds of up to 200kW.

The rear-driven Design model has a single electric motor, generating 313hp and 280lb ft of torque. It can reach 62mph in 5.5 seconds and, when fully charged, can cover an official, WLTP-tested range of up to 317 miles.

The all-wheel-drive Excellence version of the Atto 3 Evo offers more performance. With 449hp and 413lb ft of torque, it has a hot hatch-rivalling 0-62mph time of 3.9 seconds, plus a top speed of 124mph. A WLTP driving range of up to 292 miles is possible.

Lots of equipment and luggage space

2026 BYD Atto 3 Evo

A switch to BYD’s new Blade Battery has increased cabin space, despite the Atto 3 Evo having the same exterior dimensions as its predecessor. Boot capacity has also grown by 50 litres to 490 litres, with an additional 101 litres available in the new ‘frunk’.

Standard equipment for the rear-wheel-drive Design model includes a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, 8.8-inch digital instrument panel, wireless smartphone charging, 360-degree parking camera and heated front seats.

Opting for the all-wheel-drive Excellence adds heated rear seats, a head-up display and a panoramic sunroof with an electric sunshade.

UK prices have yet to be confirmed for the BYD Atto 3 Evo, but all cars will come with a six-year/93,000-mile warranty, plus separate eight-year/155,000-mile cover for the Blade Battery.

Can you be fined for parking your car with the engine running?

0
Tougher fines for idling drivers

The short answer to this question is ‘yes’. Under section 42 of the Road Traffic Act 1988, a driver can be fined £20 for a leaving their car idling while parked. This increases to £40 if the penalty isn’t paid within the given timeframe. However, few councils enforce this.

Discussing the issue, former transport secretary Chris Grayling said: “We are determined to crack down on drivers who pollute our communities by leaving their engines running, particularly outside school gates where our children are breathing in this toxic air.

“Putting a stop to idling is an easy way to drive down dangerously high levels of pollution, reducing its impact on the environment and our health.”

The microscopic pollutants in exhaust gases have been shown to be particularly damaging to children. A car idling for one minute produces enough gas to fill 150 balloons, with the chemicals released including nitrogen oxide (NOx) and cyanide.

Cost more important than air quality

Traffic in Bristol

Some 72 percent of drivers questioned in an RAC survey wanted local councils to tackle the problem, while 44 percent believed officials should have the power to issue fines if they refuse.

Around a quarter of drivers questioned by the RAC thought motorists should be told to switch off their engine without issuing a fine. Only two percent think offenders should be fined without any warning.

It would appear that drivers are becoming more sensitive to the issue of vehicle emissions and the impact on air quality in towns and cities. Indeed, more than half of the drivers surveyed said they are more concerned than they were three years previously.

However, when asked WHY they would not leave their engines idling when parked, a financial benefit was put ahead of the environment. A total of 37 percent said they switch off to save fuel, while 35 percent said they do so to improve air quality.

Just under a third of drivers claim it never occurs to them to turn the engine off.

‘Like the carrier bag charge’

On-street parking

Nicholas Lyes, head of roads policy at the RAC, said: “Councils already have the powers to deal with this problem, but few are currently doing so. Many of the drivers we questioned would like to see some firm action taken against offenders. This is no doubt needed to bring about a change in behaviour.

“You could liken the current situation with engine idling to that of taking your own carrier bags to the supermarket: everyone knew it was the right thing to do, but few of us did it until a compulsory charge was introduced. While the law is already in place for idling, enforcement is limited, if not non-existent.

“The presence of enforcement officers and ‘no engine idling’ signs, complete with penalties, must be the next step in making our urban environments better for everyone who lives, drives and works in them.”

Australian airline celebrates the famous Brabham BT19 F1 car

0
Driven by Jack Brabham, the BT19 took the Australian driver to the 1966 Formula One World Drivers’ Championship

An Australian airline has paid tribute to one of its nation’s most famous racing cars with a special commemorative livery.

Alliance Airlines, based in Brisbane, Queensland, has chosen to honour the 60th anniversary of the Brabham BT19 Formula 1 car.

Driven by the legendary Sir Jack Brabham, the BT19 took the Australian to his third and final Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship in 1966.

It remains the only time a driver has secured the F1 Drivers’ Championship in a car of his own make, and run by his own team.

Alliance Airlines marked the occasion by giving one of its newest Embraer E190-100 aircraft an eye-catching livery of green, gold and white.

An icon of Australian motorsport

Alliance Airlines Brabham BT19

The design for the Brabham BT19 was by Ron Tauranac, initially with a view to using a Coventry Climax flat-16 engine.

However, Formula 1 rule changes saw the flat-16 abandoned before the BT19 even turned a wheel. Australian firm Repco then persuaded by Jack Brabham to build a new 3.0-litre V8 specifically for the car.

Making use of old General Motors components, the Repco V8 was lightweight and offered a plentiful amount of torque. It also proved affordable to maintain.

With Sir Jack behind the wheel, the BT19 took four Grand Prix wins during the 1966 Formula 1 season. This was enough to secure both the drivers’ and manufacturers’ titles for the Australian team.

Such was the strength of the BT19, it claimed another Manufacturers’ World Championship the following year, with Jack Brabham finishing second in the Drivers’ standings.

Commemorating a special achievement

Alliance Airlines Brabham BT19

Recognising the significance of the BT19 to Australian motorsport, Repco purchased the sole example of the Brabham racer in 2004. It has since been displayed at the Australian National Sports Museum in Melbourne, and will make various public appearances throughout 2026.

In designing the special livery, Alliance Airlines made use of a bespoke colour palette featuring custom-developed ‘F1 Gold’ and the official Australian green hue.

Commenting on the livery, Stewart Tully, managing director at Alliance Airlines, said: “This aircraft signifies the magnitude of the achievements of Sir Jack Brabham, Ron Tauranac and the Repco-Brabham BT19 in 1966.

“Alliance Airlines has a proud history of paying tribute to innovation and excellence through its special liveries. This latest design is in keeping with that legacy and pays tribute to an Australian icon whose passion forever changed his field”.

A tribute to Sir Jack Brabham

Alliance Airlines Brabham BT19

David Brabham, MD of the Brabham Group and son of Sir Jack Brabham, commented: “This is a wonderful and very meaningful tribute to one of the great moments in Australian sport.

“The Repco-Brabham BT19 that propelled Jack to that historic title is clearly featured on the aircraft, making this tribute even more special. It brings to life this remarkable story in a very visible and powerful way. The Brabham family thanks Alliance for honouring this legacy.”

Alliance Airlines’ special aircraft, registration number VH-A2N, will enter service later this year and fly between various cities throughout Australia.

UK prices and specs confirmed for new electric Mazda 6e

0
The Mazda 6e comes equipped with a 78kWh battery pack in the UK, giving a potential range of up to 348 miles

Mazda has announced UK prices and specifications for the new 6e, a large electric hatchback designed to challenge Tesla.

First revealed at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show, the Mazda 6e is available to order now. The first deliveries to UK dealerships are expected this summer.

Acting as an electric replacement for the discontinued Mazda 6, the new fastback-styled EV will cost from £38,995.

This starting price makes it competitive against executive EV rivals such as the BMW i4, Mercedes-Benz CLA and the ubiquitous Tesla Model 3.

The Mazda 6e plays a key role in the Japanese brand’s pivot towards electric vehicles. A CX-6e electric crossover will join the range later this year.

Just one battery option available

2026 Mazda 6e UK Pricing

Although European versions of the Mazda 6e are offered with a choice of two battery packs, options are more limited for UK customers.

A 78kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery comes as standard on all models – said to combine ‘the best of both’ in terms of range and performance. When fully charged, the LFP battery offers an official, WLTP-tested range of up to 348 miles.

Compatible with DC charging speeds of up to 195kW, replenishing the Mazda 6e from 10 to 80 percent can take 24 minutes.

The Mazda’s 258hp electric motor sends all its power to the rear wheels, helping the 6e to accelerate from 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds.

A streamlined interpretation of Mazda’s Kodo design language should boost efficiency, helped by an active rear spoiler and aerodynamically styled 19-inch alloy wheels.

A high level of standard spec

2026 Mazda 6e UK Pricing

The £38,995 Takumi trim kicks off the Mazda 6e range. Highlights include a panoramic glass sunroof, power-operated tailgate, 360-degree surround-view camera and a front grille with illuminated signature lighting.

On the inside, the Mazda 6e Takumi comes with artificial leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel and even an air purifier.

Infotainment is taken care of by a 14.6-inch central touchscreen, combined with a 10.2-inch digital instrument panel. Wireless smartphone charging is included, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Opting for Takumi Plus trim sees a small increase in price to £39,995, adding seats clad in premium tan Nappa leather with artificial suede fabric inserts.

Both versions offer a 336-litre boot capacity, with a further 72 litres of storage space beneath the bonnet in the ‘frunk’.

‘A real statement of intent’

2026 Mazda 6e UK Pricing

Jeremy Thomson, managing director for Mazda Motors UK, said: “The Mazda 6e is the car our dealers have been waiting for. With a nod to the popularity of the Mazda 6, it’s a real statement of intent for the future and illustrates how Mazda can bring great design, technology and style to battery electric vehicles.

“And with the suspension, power steering and braking carefully calibrated by the team at Mazda Research Europe in Frankfurt to match UK preferences, I’m sure the Mazda 6e will be an electric car that delivers the engaging driver experience you’d expect from Mazda.”

The Mazda 6e is available to configure on the marque’s website now. Orders can also be placed through Mazda dealerships.
