2027 Renault 5 gets more range and new colours for the same price

Improved aerodynamics and better battery tech have boosted the electric Renault 5's range, with a host of new paint colours also added

Orders for the updated 2027 Renault 5 E-Tech are now open, with prices remaining unchanged

Orders books are open for the 2027 Renault 5 E-Tech, which offers extra battery range and more standard equipment.

Having collected a cabinet full of trophies since it was launched in 2024, the electric hatchback has now received a timely update.

Along with the 2025 European Car of the Year Award, the R5 also won the 2026 UK Car of the Year prize, along with 40 other accolades from around the world.

Production of the reborn Renault 5 has already surpassed 100,000 examples. All cars are made at the Ampere ElectriCity plant, located in Douai, near Lille, in France.

Motoring Research’s Tim Pitt is currently living with a Renault 5 as part of an ongoing long-term test. You can read all his reports here.

Renault 5 goes further for 2027

Updated 2027 Renault 5 Electric

The most significant changes to the 2027 Renault 5 E-Tech concern its battery range, with both versions now going further on a single charge.

In entry-level 40kWh guise, the R5 now offers up to 197 miles, while the 52kWh model is boosted to 259 miles – both measured using the official WLTP test cycle.

Optimised battery electronics have contributed to the extra range, along with aerodynamic enhancements to the lower bodywork and side mirrors.

Renault has ditched the steering wheel-mounted Multi-Sense button for the updated 5, introducing a new SmartMode system that automatically chooses between Eco, Comfort and Sport settings instead.

For those who still want to manually engage Sport mode, the three different driver profiles remain selectable via the infotainment touchscreen.

New paint colours and more on offer

Updated 2027 Renault 5 Electric

The 5’s interior has gained a new wireless magnetic and cooled smartphone charger. Designed to prevent overheating, it can replenish 50 percent of a smartphone’s battery in one hour.

Extra paint colours are also part of the 2027 model-year makeover, with new Flame Red and Shadow Grey hues set to join the lineup. Midnight Blue cars in Techno+ and Iconic Five+ trims now receive a contrasting red roofline, too.

New decal packages will be available for the exterior, while the upholstery of Iconic Five+ models changes from yellow to mottled blue.

Perhaps the most surprising revelation about the 2027 Renault 5 E-Tech is that, in a world where everything seems to be getting more expensive, its price tag remains unchanged.

The Electric Car Grant means the 2027 R5 range still starts from £21,495, with orders open now at Renault dealerships.
