Nissan has revealed a new Pixo electric city car, based on the award-winning Renault Twingo.
For its own take on Renault’s compact EV, Nissan has revived a name last used by the Japanese marque more than a decade ago.
Sold between 2009 and 2013, the (entirely forgettable) first-generation Pixo was a badge-engineered version of the contemporary Suzuki Alto. Built in India, it offered bargain pricing – but little else.
Nissan given the new Pixo a more distinctive look than its predecessor, not least to set it apart from the attention-grabbing Renault Twingo.
The restyling effort includes a ‘robot face’ front bumper, along with a colour palette that boasts bright Wonder Purple and Gear Blue hues.
Pixo offers up to 161 miles of range
The core architecture of the Renault Twingo remains unaltered, however, meaning Nissan’s changes are focused on elements such the lights, bumpers and (pixelated) alloy wheels.
Despite its compact dimensions, clever packaging means the Pixo has a very useful 356-litre boot. It also shares the Twingo’s sliding rear seats, allowing a choice between space for passengers or cargo.
Beneath the restyled body is the same electric powertrain as used by the Twingo, which combines a 27.5kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery with an 82hp motor.
Fully charged, the Nissan Pixo can cover up to 161 miles. Compatibility with 50kW DC rapid-charging devices sees the battery capable of charging from 15 to 80 percent in 28 minutes.
Robot Easter Eggs are included
As with the outside, the interior of the new Pixo owes much to the Twingo, although Nissan has tried to add its own unique charm. This includes hiding robot ‘Easter Eggs’ throughout the cabin, along with pops of colour for the dashboard.
A seven-inch digital instrument panel is combined with a 10-inch central touchscreen, incorporating built-in Google navigation and face ID to automatically recognise drivers and their preferred settings.
Intended for European customers, the Pixo will be built alongside the Twingo at Renault’s Novo Mesto factory in Slovenia.
Deliveries of the first completed cars to customers are expected from early 2027. Full prices, specification and pre-order information for the Nissan Pixo will be announced from December 2026 onwards.
