Porsche launches new AI-powered PCM infotainment system

The 911, Taycan, Panamera and Cayenne models will all receive a new generation of the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system

The new Porsche Communication Management system boasts five times more computer power than the existing setup

Buyers of new 2027 Porsche models will receive an upgraded version of the integrated PCM infotainment system.

The new Porsche Communication Management (PCM) software will be deployed in 911, Taycan, Panamera and Cayenne models, bringing with it a substantial boost in processing power.

A brand-new ‘system-on-chip’ architecture is said to boast five times the processing power of the previous PCM system.

As a result, Porsche says drivers will benefit from faster PCM start-up times and shorter loading times when switching between applications, plus a generally smoother user experience.

Like the latest smartphones, the upgraded PCM setup can also have more apps running in the background.

A different kind of power boost

The new user interface is applied to the upgraded PCM, borrowing a design first used on the Cayenne Electric luxury SUV.

Porsche says this features a clearer layout, a ‘uniform operating logic’ and the ability for drivers to extensively personalise the PCM layout to suit their needs.

A rotating 3D virtual image of the car being driven, even down to the correct paint colour, allows quick access to selected vehicle functions and settings.

Also new is an updated navigation module, which features real-time traffic data and access to the Porsche Charging Planner to suggest optimal routes for electric vehicles.

Similar to the integration of Google Gemini in other vehicles, the new PCM also boasts an AI-powered ‘Voice Pilot’. This will allow drivers and passengers to give complex voice commands in natural, conversational language.

High-end Bose and Burmester sound systems will now be compatible with the Apple Music platform, too – bringing support for Dolby Atmos.

“This new generation of infotainment means we can create a more powerful digital platform that combines enhanced performance, intelligent connectivity and a consistent user experience across multiple model lines,” said Oliver Seifert, head of infotainment at Porsche.

“The combination of a modern system-on-chip architecture, Porsche Digital Interaction and an expanded digital ecosystem enables us to continuously develop the in-car Porsche experience.”

Porsche will progressively roll-out the upgraded PCM system across the 911, Taycan, Panamera and Cayenne model lines.

Exact availability of the PCM upgrade will be determined by the sales market, vehicle model, production date and level of equipment fitted.
