Jaecoo 7 tops the UK car sales chart… again

New figures show the Jaecoo 7 was Britain's favourite car in October 2026, with 3,412 examples of the Chinese SUV registered

The Ford Puma remains top of the overall new registration charts for 2026, followed by the Jaecoo 7 and Kia Sportage

New figures reveal the Jaecoo 7 to be the UK’s most-registered new car for the second month in a row.

Data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) shows that 3,412 examples of Jaecoo’s family SUV were registered in the UK during October 2026.

The Jaecoo 7 has been the best-selling new vehicle for three out of 10 months so far in 2026, having also topped the charts in March and September.

In September, some 10,814 examples of the Chinese-made SUV joined Britain’s roads. Adding the latest figures for October takes the Jaecoo 7’s total to 42,885 cars this year.

It means the Jaecoo 7 has retained its position as the second best-selling vehicle in 2026 so far.

Jaecoo and Omoda continue to grow

October 2026 New Car Sales

Sister brands Omoda and Jaecoo enjoyed wider success in October, expanding their combined UK market share to 6.1 percent.

Aiding this was the smaller Jaecoo 5 SUV, which claimed 10th place for the month with 2,171 registrations, The related Omoda 5 notched up 1,770 registrations, placing it 15th in the chart.

Victor Zhang, managing director of Omoda and Jaecoo UK, said: “October has been a significant month for Omoda and Jaecoo. Our International User Summit gave us a first look at the next generation of models, and to then see the Jaecoo 7 remain at the top of the UK market is a strong endorsement of the work our team and retailers have put in here.

“There is a great deal still to come before the end of the year, and beyond it. Our focus is on making sure the experience of owning one of our cars matches the excitement of buying one. That means continued investment in our retailers, our parts network and the support we give customers for as long as they own their car. That is what will turn a strong year into a lasting business.”

Ford Puma still most-registered of 2026

October 2026 New Car Sales

The Ford Puma remains the most-registered car of 2026 so far. Although the Jaecoo 7 beat the Puma into second place for October, the Ford is 3,369 examples ahead overall – taking its total for the year to 46,295 cars.

During October 2026, battery electric cars accounted for nearly a third (32 percent) of new registrations. This leaves EVs with a market share of 26.6 percent: still behind the government’s ZEV Mandate target.

Mike Hawes, chief executive of the SMMT, said: “Almost one in three new cars registered in October was electric – great progress in the transition, but one that comes at enormous cost.

“The industry and government are spending billions to help drivers switch, but that support cannot be sustained indefinitely with the gap to mandated targets set to more than double by 2028, just as a new EV-only tax is introduced”.
