Final UK prices and specifications have been announced for the new Aion UT supermini as it makes its public debut.
The new challenger to the Renault 5 E-Tech and Volkswagen ID. Polo was unveiled at the British Motor Show in Farnborough over the weekend.
The second electric model from the new-entrant Chinese manufacturer, the UT follows the larger Aion V.
Joining the fast-growing electric supermini segment means the UT faces plenty of competition, including the MG4 EV Urban and Geely EX2.
With a starting price of £28,950 when sales begin next month, the Italian-designed Aion UT looks expensive against its main rivals.
Standard equipment for the Aion UT

However, Aion points to the UT’s strong level of specification compared to other electric superminis, along with its impressive battery range.
Standard equipment on all Aion UT models includes 17-inch alloy wheels, a heated steering wheel and power-adjustable heated front seats, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto phone connectivity. There is also a 14.6-inch central touchscreen and 360-degree surround-view parking cameras.
For an extra £1,200, taking the price to £30,150, buyers will be able to specify a Premium Pack for the Aion UT.
This brings a panoramic glass sunroof with an electric shade function, electric folding door mirrors, wireless smartphone charging, an electric tailgate and ventilated driver’s seat.
This generous specification, combined with a practical 440-litre boot capacity, is what Aion hopes will make the UT attractive against cheaper contenders.
Aion UT is going the distance

Only one powertrain will be available for the UT, incorporating a 60kWh battery pack. This delivers a 268-mile range when fully charged: longer than the Renault 5 E-Tech and Geely EX2.
Ahead of its UK launch, Aion has also retuned the UT to suit British roads, with bespoke springs, dampers and bump-stops for the suspension.
In addition, every Aion UT comes with an eight-year warranty, free servicing, free roadside assistance and free MOTs as part of the company’s ‘Great 8’ package.
“The Aion UT is a supermini with class-leading performance, quality, space and premium features, continuing Aion’s work in helping customers see things differently,” said Jon Wakefield, managing director of Aion Auto UK.
“Not only does the UT have an impressive list of standard kit, but it also includes equipment that isn’t available on competitor models. And with the Aion Great 8 Promise included with every car, it exemplifies how we’re setting a new standard in the market.”
