Polestar has unveiled a new SUV version of its ‘4′ electric fastback, boosting space for passengers and luggage.
Instead of the existing Polestar 4’s radical windowless tailgate, the new luxury SUV features an upright rear end for increased practicality.
It means drivers can use a regular rear-view mirror to see behind the Polestar 4 SUV, rather relying on a camera – as in the coupe version.
Along with better rearward visibility, the Polestar 4 SUV treats back-seat passengers to increased headroom and a larger panoramic glass sunroof.
Production of the electric Polestar 4 SUV is already underway in Busan, South Korea, with the first examples now on their way to customers.
Inside the Polestar 4 SUV
Adding an SUV tailgate to the Polestar 4 provides 530 litres of luggage capacity with the rear seats in place: a modest four litres more than the fastback model.
However, stacking the Polestar 4 SUV with cargo up to the roofline boosts this figure to 655 litres, while folding the rear seats down offers the potential to carry 1,680 litres – 144 litres more than the coupe. The SUV also gains full-length roof rails, capable of supporting up to 100kg.
Polestar has left the remainder of the Polestar 4 untouched, noting that only 48 new parts were needed to complete the transformation into an SUV.
New additions for the Polestar 4 SUV include a Camping Mode that allows the climate control and ambient lighting to be controlled from the front and rear displays. It also features vehicle-to-load connectivity – to power a portable fridge using the car’s battery, for example.
‘More space, utility and adventure’
Beneath its new bodywork, the Polestar 4 SUV’s electric powertrain is unchanged, with a 100kW battery standard across the lineup.
The rear-motor version serves up 272hp and can cover 391 miles on a full battery. The Dual Motor all-wheel-drive model musters a substantial 544hp, although the more powerful setup reduces range to 373 miles.
Buyers can also specify a Performance Pack that comprises ZF adaptive dampers, Brembo brakes with gold-painted calipers and a set of 22-inch alloy wheels.

UK prices for the Polestar 4 SUV start from £54,750 for the rear-wheel-drive version, or £60,750 for dual-motor models. Adding the Performance Pack increases the total to £68,250.
