Ford Galaxy review

From £39,940

It may be unfashionable, but the Ford Galaxy MPV is quiet and composed on the move, loaded with safety equipment and utterly practical.

  • Ford Galaxy
  • For: Seven-seat practicality, safety equipment
  • Against: Drab image, forgettable to drive
  • Verdict: The Galaxy remains one the best seven-seat MPVs

In a galaxy far, far away, people are still buying people carriers.

Meanwhile, closer to home, MPVs such as the Ford Galaxy are struggling to sell – except to taxi fleets such as Addison Lee.

But while large SUVs might be more fashionable and impress your neighbours, they cannot match the flexibility and space of a good seven-seat MPV.

Ford refreshed the Galaxy in 2019, giving it a mild facelift and introducing new equipment. However the range has now been slimmed-down to just one model: the £39,940 Titanium Hybrid.

Yes, that’s right, you can no longer buy a Galaxy with the once-default diesel engine. Today, just the 190hp 2.5-litre petrol-electric hybrid remains.

While nearly £40,000 seems steep, bear in mind you’re unlikely to pay full price – or anything close. Ford is rather generous with its discounts.

OK, it looks dull and it doesn’t corner like a Fiesta ST (what does?), but as a means of comfortable transport for seven people, the big Ford is still worth a look.
