Toyota Aygo review

From £12,440

There are better – and fresher – alternatives in this smallest of segments, but the Toyota comes with an excellent five-year warranty.

  • Toyota Aygo
  • For: Styling, warranty, lively engine
  • Against: Cramped in rear, cheap interior
  • Verdict: Stylish city car that’s beginning to show its age

It’s not immediately obvious, but the Toyota Aygo shares its platform with the Peugeot 108 and Citroen C1.

Thanks to its bold styling, the Aygo manages to stand out in a crowded city car segment, while it’s possible to create an even more eye-catching car thanks to various trim levels and bright colours.

There are three- and five-door versions available, with seating available for four adults (just).

There’s one engine: a lively 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that is beginning to show its age. That said, it delivers up to 56.4mpg if you have a light right foot.

Prices start from less than £12,500 for the basic three-door Aygo X, but in truth you’ll want to upgrade to a five-door X-Play or X-Trend for more kit and greater practicality.

There are better – and fresher – alternatives in this smallest of segments, but the Toyota comes with an excellent five-year warranty.
