Mercedes-Benz V-Class review

From £55,165

The V-Class people carrier might be the least sexy member of the huge Mercedes-Benz range, but it’s also the most practical.

  • Mercedes-Benz V-Class
  • For: Really practical, multiple options, campervan available
  • Against: Van styling, feels big (because it is)
  • Verdict: A large MPV that offers brilliant practicality and a touch of luxury

The V-Class people carrier might be the least sexy member of the huge Mercedes-Benz range, but it’s also the most practical.

Prices start from £55,000, and the V-Class is available in three different lengths and with a host of different configurations. One of these is the Marco Polo – a luxurious campervan that can be turned into a real home-from-home.

There’s no disguising the V-Class’ van-based roots, but the big Mercedes offers genuine six-, seven- or even eight-seat practicality. No wonder many are put to work as upmarket minicabs.

Mercedes facelifted the V-Class in 2019, introducing new technology, autonomous braking assistance and more efficient engines.

The 2.0-litre diesel is available in two states of tune: 163hp or 239hp. A nine-speed automatic transmission is fitted as standard, plus there’s a wealth of options and accessories to choose from.

Quite simply, the V-Class is big – and it’s clever, too.
