Mercedes-Benz E-Class review

From £46,051

In the real world, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class might be one of the best new cars on the planet. Yes, it is expensive, but it's easy to see why.

  • Mercedes-Benz E-Class 2020
  • For: Quality cabin, comfort, space
  • Against: Expensive, looks like a C-Class
  • Verdict: One of the world’s greatest all-rounders

In the real world, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class might be one of the best new cars on the planet.

There are four body styles: saloon, estate, coupe and cabriolet. Common factors that unite all four include chiseled good looks, quality cabins and a focus on comfort over precision handling.

That’s assuming you don’t opt for one of the full-fat AMG cars, which offer supercar performance.

The E-Class doesn’t come cheap, but competitive PCP deals make it more affordable, while the four-cylinder diesel engine is a masterclass in engineering and efficiency.

Life with an E-Class starts from around £46,000, but few leave showrooms for less than £50,000.

The cavernous estate is arguably the model to have and there’s also a rugged-looking All Terrain version with four-wheel drive. Meanwhile, the cabriolet offers genuine four-seat comfort and all-weather useability.

The coupe is arguably the least convincing model as if offers little more driving pleasure than the saloon, yet costs more to buy.
