Kia Niro review

From £24,900

The Niro is more than just a car – it’s a range of electrified cars. Our pick of the range is the great-value e-Niro.

  • Kia Niro
  • For: Impressive electric version, standard equipment, warranty
  • Against: Dull styling, uninspiring cabin, lacklustre hybrid
  • Verdict: Convincing range of electrified cars

The Niro is more than just a car – it’s a range of electrified cars.

There are three versions on sale in the UK – hybrid, plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and electric – each backed by a seven-year warranty.

It’s closely related to the Hyundai Ioniq, with a body style somewhere between a family hatchback and an SUV.

Which one you choose depends on your circumstances, but all are practical and spacious. It’s just a shame the Niro lacks design flair.

The Hybrid is the cheapest version. Priced from £25,000, it delivers 58.9mpg in official tests. The PHEV costs £32,000 and offers up to 201.8mpg, plus an electric range of 20 miles.

The e-Niro is the efficiency hero, managing an electric range of 282 miles.

In common with the Ioniq, the noisy Hybrid is the least convincing.

In contrast, the e-Niro is the best ‘everyman EV’ yet. Kia’s biggest problem could be keeping up with demand.
