If you’re struggling to place the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo, it’s best to view it as a fusion of the 5 Series Touring estate and 7 Series saloon.

On paper, this sounds like a winning combination. Its boot can swallow 610 litres of luggage, which is more than the 5 Series Touring, while the cabin offers the same luxury and opulence you’ll find in the flagship 7 Series.

It’s only when you start to digger a little deeper that the appeal of the 6 Series Gran Turismo begins to unravel.

For a start, it’s expensive. Prices start at £44,000, which is around £4,000 more than the better looking 5 Touring.

It’s also heavier than both the 5 and 7, which only serves to blunt the performance and dilute BMW’s famed sporty handling characteristics.

A fine car in isolation, then, but there are better options in the BMW range.
