Bentley Bentayga review

From £146,700

The Bentley Bentayga is a class act. Its styling remains divisive, but it offers luxury, all-weather ability and a real sense of occasion.

  • Bentley Bentayga 2020
  • For: Performance, opulence, comfort
  • Against: Styling, expensive, questionable image
  • Verdict: Luxury SUV does everything well

The Bentley Bentayga is a class act. Its styling remains divisive, albeit improved following a facelift in 2020, but every drive offers a real sense of occasion.

Any lingering doubts about Crewe’s first SUV are cast aside once you’re cocooned among the hand-finished wood and pillowy leather of its luxurious cabin. Quality is second-to-none.

The positive vibes continue once you’re rolling. The 6.0-litre W12 engine in the flagship Bentayga Speed propels this 2.4-tonne boutique hotel room to 62mph in just 3.9 seconds, plus a top speed of 190mph

It almost seems wrong to opt for the 4.0-litre V8 petrol, 3.0-litre V6 hybrid or now-discontinued Bentayga diesel – fine car though that was.

Make no mistake, the Bentley Bentayga is as good on the road as when the going gets tough. The transformation from luxury SUV to rugged off-roader is almost seamless, and it’s surprisingly good fun to drive, too.

Personalising the Bentayga can almost double its price, while running costs will be steep. But did you expect any different from a Bentley?
