Skoda is giving away free designs for 3D-printed car accessories

3D-printable accessories from Skoda include cupholders, cable hooks and even a way to transport your packet of takeaway fries

Designed by Skoda’s own in-house team, the 3D printing plans cover new electric models, and older legacy vehicles

Skoda has launched an array of 3D-printed accessories – and owners can download the instructions to make them for free.

The Czech manufacturer is well known for its range of ‘Simply Clever’ inventions, such as hidden umbrellas and an ice scraper inside the fuel flap.

Now Skoda is allowing owners to personalise their vehicles by making their own accessories, using 3D printing blueprints from a dedicated Printables website.

Plans for printable items can simply be downloaded for free, then manufactured using a compatible 3D printer. Owners can also tailor the downloadable designs to their own taste, ensuring maximum compatibility.

The list of accessories offers a typically Skoda combination of simplicity and practicality, having been developed by the marque’s design and engineering teams.

Included among the plans to download are new inserts for the centre console of various Skoda models, including one for the fourth-generation Skoda Fabia supermini.

This features a key holder, slots for shopping trolley tokens and even a cup holder that can be used to safely transport a carton of fries from your local drive-thru restaurant.

Other available options include cable hooks to clip onto seat pockets, smartphone brackets and a coin box.

Dedicated designs for electric SUVs

The latest Skoda Peaq and Epiq electric SUVs have their own dedicated array of 3D-printable accessories, too.

Options available for these models include cupholder covers, a jumbo storage box tray, special inserts and holders, and a lower console organiser.

There is also a clip-on cupholder for the Peaq’s foldable table trays, which can be adapted for both standard- and large-sized drink cups.

Since Skoda added its list of accessories to the Printables website, it says the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

The most popular item downloaded so far is a top tether hook, which can be adapted to various vehicles to help secure items in the boot.
