Subaru Levorg review

From £34,770

Because the Levorg is practical, good looking and safe, it remains a credible leftfield alternative to the usual names.

  • Subaru Levorg
  • For: Safety, reliability, equipment
  • Against: CVT transmission, no diesel option
  • Verdict: A safe, reliable and credible alternative to established estate cars

The Subaru Levorg arrived in 2015 as a replacement for the Legacy.

The one-size-fits-all combination of a 2.0-litre petrol engine and all-wheel-drive means it’ll never be anything other than a niche proposition in the UK, but that’s part of its charm.

Put simply, if you place all-weather reassurance, safety and reliability at the top of your list of priorities, the Levorg presents a compelling case.

There’s also only one trim level, but it packs plenty of equipment that would be optional on a German rival. Prices start from £35,000.

The Levorg should be fun to drive, but its CVT transmission dilutes the sense of enjoyment.

Meanwhile, the naturally aspirated engine is unlikely to appeal to drivers accustomed to the effortless performance and efficiency of a turbo unit.

Still, because the Subaru is practical, good looking and safe, it remains a credible leftfield alternative to the usual names.
