Mazda 6 review

From £24,725

Regardless of engine, the Mazda 6 is great to drive, with precise steering, a sweet manual gearbox and a terrific balance of ride and handling.

  • Mazda 6 2020
  • For: Styling, dynamics, smooth diesel
  • Against: Revvy petrol engine, not as practical as an SUV
  • Verdict: Stylish saloon and estate are great to drive

The Mazda 6 looks delightful, with both saloon and Tourer (estate) versions offering the kind of style a boxy SUV can only dream of.

A 2018 update introduced new LED headlights, different alloy wheels and tweaks to the front and rear bumpers to make it look even sharper.

It was a comprehensive update, with Mazda boosting interior quality and increasing the level of standard equipment.

Buyers can choose from a range of clever ‘Skyactiv’ engines. The 2.0-litre petrol is available in 145hp and 165hp outputs, while the flagship GT Sport Nav+ has a 2.5 petrol producing 194hp.

Alternatively, it can be ordered with a smooth and punchy 184hp 2.2 diesel – available with 150hp on lower trim levels.

Regardless of engine, the Mazda 6 is great to drive, with precise steering, a sweet manual gearbox and a terrific balance of ride and handling.
