Porsche has announced the return of the manual-equipped 911 Carrera S during Monterey Car Week.
Overwhelming customer demand is said to be behind Porsche’s decision to bring back a stick shift. The six-speed ‘box in the new 911 Carrera S with MT Package is an alternative to the standard PDK automatic transmission.
“As a lifelong driving enthusiast, I’m personally excited to announce the return of the manual transmission to the Carrera S,” said Timo Resch, CEO of Porsche Cars North America.
“While some brands are abandoning the manual, we are proud to continue offering three pedals in a range of products that speaks to different use cases. Managing a clutch and shift lever isn’t for everyone, but for the drivers who want it there really is no substitute.”
Porsche sticks by manual transmissions
Adding the option of a six-speed manual to the 2027 Carrera S means Porsche now offers seven different versions of its 911 sports car with a stick-shift transmission.
Three of these are based around the high-performance 911 GT3, including the new open-top S/C model.
The successful public response to the earlier launch of the manual-only 911 Carrera T is likely to have convinced Porsche to bring back another, relatively affordable three-pedal option.
To be offered solely in rear-wheel-drive configuration, the 911 Carrera S with MT Package uses a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine producing 473 horsepower.
PASM Sport suspension is standard, as are rear-wheel steering and a sports exhaust system.

Porsche will also fit the 911 Carrera S with center-lock alloy wheels, saving some 17 lb compared to the regular rims.
As a result, the new model tips the scales at 3,327 lb, only 11 lb more than a 911 Carrera T.
Numerous exterior and interior design packages are available for the 2027 911 Carrera S. All feature a red “S” badge on the rear bumper. A walnut gear shifter is also standard, a feature found in special edition manual 911s.
Prices for the 2027 911 Carrera S in coupe form will start from $167,100, with the cabriolet version requiring $181,000, excluding fees and delivery charges.
Porsche is accepting orders for the new stick-shift 911 now, with the first deliveries expected by the end of 2026.
