Lexus NX review

From £36,060

The Lexus NX is one of the most striking cars in a segment that’s often guilty of playing it safe.

  • Lexus NX
  • For: Styling, technology, efficient
  • Against: Dull to drive, frustrating powertrain, smallish boot
  • Verdict: Stylish and tech-heavy, but falls short of its rivals

The Lexus NX is one of the most striking cars in a segment that’s often guilty of playing it safe.

It’s the company’s mid-range SUV, slotting between the UX and the RX to rival the likes of the Audi Q5 and Volvo XC60.

There’s only one powertrain: a 2.5-litre petrol-electric hybrid that delivers a claimed 35.3 to 37.6mpg.

The interior is as bold as the exterior, with a dashboard that’s strong on quality and loaded with neat details.

Standard equipment is high, regardless of whether you opt for the entry-level NX or upgrade to F Sport or Takumi trims.

So far, so good. Sadly, the ride quality isn’t up to scratch, while the engine and CVT transmission combo can be frustrating and bewildering.

The sloping roofline also robs headroom for those travelling in the back, while the boot is less than adequate for a car of this size.
