Italian police take delivery of a Lamborghini Temerario

Lamborghini has presented the Italian State Police with an example of its V8 hybrid-powered Temerario supercar.

A special ceremony, held at Lamborghini’s headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese, saw the 920hp two-seat Temerario handed over to its new owners. 

Despite its ability to accelerate from 0-62mph in 2.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 213mph, the Temerario will not be tasked with catching speeders on the autostrada.

Instead, like the Lamborghini police cars before it, the Temerario will be used for the most critical missions, such as emergency transport of organs for transplant and other medical supplies.

Lamborghini’s rapid response vehicle

Unveiled in 2024, the Temerario is the first mid-engined Lamborghini to use a V8 since the Jalpa of the 1980s. 

Combining a high-revving twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre engine with a trio of electric motors gives the Temerario its prodigious power output. It can also cover up to five miles on battery power alone. 

Being larger than the Huracan it replaced means this latest Lambo supercar offers more interior space, plus extra room for luggage in its ‘frunk’ – ideal for transporting valuable medical equipment. 

Lamborghini chairman and CEO Stephan Winkelmann attended the handover of the police Temerario, along with the company’s board of directors. 

Italian minister of the interior, Matteo Piantedosi, was joined by units who represented the Italian State Police – all of whom are likely now vying to be first to use the new supercar.

A distinguished service career

The handover of the Temerario coincided with the launch of a new book ‘I motori della Polizia’, charting the history of police vehicles used throughout Italy, and including some of the nation’s more special cars.

During the last two decades alone, six Lamborghinis have been used by the Italian State Police, beginning with a Gallardo in 2004. 

This was subsequently followed by the updated Gallardo LP 560-4, then its Huracan LP 610-4 replacement in 2014.  

More recently, an example of the Urus high-performance SUV was added to the Italian State Police fleet, too.

Italy is not the only country to make use of Lamborghinis for police duties, however. In 2024, the Dubai police force added a 666hp Urus Performante to its elaborate lineup of supercar service vehicles.
