With a new academic year now underway, research has revealed just how much time is spent taking children back and forth to school.
According to a survey by Citroen, parents typically spend 76 hours a year on the school run.
This equates to more than three full days spent ferrying kids to and from school over the course of 12 months.
Such journeys typically account for almost two-thirds (60 percent) of the average mileage driven by parents each week.
More than half (58 percent) of those surveyed said that, in to make better use of their time, they typically incorporate other chores, such as shopping, into the daily school run routine.
School run a source of daily stress
From Citroen’s research, 38 percent of parents admitted that they find the school run to be a stressful task.
In addition, close to a quarter (23 percent) thought it was a chaotic experience to deal with.
Despite this, an overwhelming majority of parents (88 percent) believe the school run represents an important opportunity to socialise with their children.
Of those questioned, close to half (48 percent) said improved car comfort would help to make the school run less stressful.
