Online marketplace eBay has launched a new MOT Hub, aimed at helping UK drivers be ready for the annual vehicle inspection.
Part of eBay’s ‘My Garage’ area on the website and smartphone app, the MOT Hub makes use of data taken from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).
Once a driver enters their car’s registration number into the eBay MOT Hub, DVSA data is used to establish which parts are most likely to be needed ahead of an upcoming test.
In particular, the MOT Hub will search previous DVSA test results to determine recent failures and advisory notifications for the car.
For example, if the car received an advisory for windscreen wiper blades the year before, it will remind the owner to check and consider replacing these ahead of the upcoming MOT test.
Millions of MOT failures are easily prevented
The motivation behind eBay’s new MOT Hub follows analysis of data obtained from the DVSA via a Freedom of Information request.
Covering MOTs taken during 2025, eBay uncovered that millions of test failures were caused by defects that could potentially have been addressed by drivers themselves.
For example, more than 566,000 MOT failures were caused by windscreen wipers not clearing the screen properly, despite such parts being relatively simple to source and fit.
In addition, some 650,000 failures at MOT test time were due to faulty position lamps. Here, the eBay MOT Hub can suggest appropriate replacement bulbs, based on the car’s registration number.
Aiding drivers to manage their own maintenance
The analysis of data by eBay found that worn tyres accounted for the largest number of MOT failures, with 935,605 instances recorded during 2025 alone.
Although replacing tyres may be beyond the capability of most home mechanics, eBay’s reminders would at least encourage drivers to check these parts before the next MOT.

“The new MOT Hub is designed to make that process simpler, bringing together DVSA-sourced MOT data and eBay’s My Garage in one place. With recommended parts to resolve advisories, eBay gives motorists confidence to fix and maintain their own vehicles.”
