Vauxhall Insignia Grand Sport review

From £20,045

Vauxhall’s large compact executive is a stylish and well-equipped alternative to the premium players in its class.

  • Vauxhall Insignia
  • For: Ride, styling, equipment
  • Against: Dull to drive, sombre cabin
  • Verdict: Comfortable and efficient motorway car

It’s called the Grand Sport, but in reality it’s little more than a Vauxhall Insignia hatchback.

Not that this is a bad thing, because Vauxhall’s compact executive is a stylish and well-equipped alternative to the premium players in its class.

Prices start from a sector-busting £20,000 for the feature-packed Design model, but you needn’t pay more than £25,000 for an Insignia with all the bells and whistles.

There’s also a flagship GSI Nav model, although a near-£40,000 price tag pitches it against some credible – and more desirable – upmarket rivals.

In isolation, the Insignia Grand Sport is a fine car that’s perfect for long distance commuting. The ride is comfortable, the engines are efficient, and there’s more than enough tech for the most demanding of drivers.

It’s also spacious on the inside, although the boot is far from the largest in the class.
