Lexus LS review

From £76,900

Lexus might be throwing its weight behind an expanding range of SUVs, but the LS represents the pinnacle of its engineering and technical might.

  • Lexus LS
  • For: Quality, comfort, equipment
  • Against: Powertrain, styling, image
  • Verdict: Impressive luxury and equipment but let down by the powertrain

Lexus might be throwing its weight behind an expanding range of SUVs, but the LS represents the pinnacle of its engineering and technical might.

The flagship luxury saloon will be a small part of what is already a small sector in the UK – and one that is dominated by German brands.

On paper, the hybrid-only Lexus LS 500h puts up a good fight. It feels as luxurious as you’d expect and the cabin is loaded with details that deliver a high-class and bespoke feel.

It also boasts the latest driver assistance technology and toys designed to soothe a business person after a long day at the office.

The LS is relatively efficient, too. The 3.5-litre petrol-electric system returns up to 36.6mpg on a combined cycle, which is more than acceptable for a car this size.

It’s just a shame the hesitant powertrain remains the weak link in an otherwise impressive package.
