Hyundai i20 review

From £14,420

The Hyundai i20 is arguably all the supermini you could need. As an affordable all-rounder, it's hard to ignore.

  • Hyundai i20
  • For: Practical, spacious, long warranty
  • Against: Dull cabin, replacement imminent
  • Verdict: A common-sense choice that ticks plenty of boxes

The Hyundai i20 is arguably all the supermini you could need.

It doesn’t drive as sweetly as a Ford Fiesta, the cabin isn’t as nice as the Volkswagen Polo’s, and it doesn’t look as sharp as the Seat Ibiza.

However, as an affordable all-rounder, the i20 is hard to ignore. It’s backed by a five-year/unlimited mileage warranty, offered with range of efficient petrol engines and, following an update in 2018, looks more stylish than before.

Although prices start from £14,000, we’d avoid the entry-level S Connect version as it lacks some must-have features and safety equipment. What’s more, it’s powered by a 75hp 1.2-litre engine, which is the weakest unit available.

SE, Play, Premium Nav and Premium SE Nav trim levels offer more kit and a wider choice of engines, including a punchy 1.0 turbocharged unit.

A common-sense supermini with a spacious cabin, then. Job done.
