Chucklevision: pedal-powered Vauxhall Corsa for sale on eBay

A Vauxhall Corsa converted to run on pedal power is for sale on internet auction site, eBay.

Described by the seller as a ‘BikeCar’, the Corsa is advertised for £1,600 and has attracted 130 curious watchers since it was listed on Monday.

“I have a history of making unusual bikes and cars,” explains the Sussex-based seller. “This is this year’s project, and now I offer it for sale to anyone who is into interesting, unusual stuff like this.

“The idea behind the project was this: Make a four-person pedal-powered car, except instead of starting from scratch, fit all the cycling mechanicals into an existing car normal car, keeping elements of the original car such as the lights, electric windows, horn, doors, mirrors, etc.”

He adds that a Vauxhall Corsa was chosen because they’re small and light, with plenty of space inside for all four riders. A number of challenges had to be overcome, meaning the project took longer than expected.

“I was originally thinking of using BMX wheels and brakes with MTB suspension, but the reality of that was they would not be strong enough,” he says.

The car’s chassis has been replaced by plywood, while the seats are foldable steel camping chairs bolted to the floor.

The suspension uses dampers from a Honda CBR motorbike, while the wheels are heavy-duty steel pit-bike wheels with Michelin tyres.

An electronic control panel has been installed on the dash, controlling the LED headlights, electric windows and horn.

The seller doesn’t suggest how road legal the pedal-powered Corsa is. With no number plate, it could attract the attention of the police – but, with no engine-power, you could argue that it’s no different to riding a bicycle. Good luck having that conversation.

Fancy treating yourself to the ultimate in Top Gear souvenirs this Christmas? A Vauxhall Astra that appeared in Jeremy Clarkson’s last series on the BBC is for sale on eBay – with bids currently at £8,100.

Boris Johnson: I want Jeremy Clarkson’s job

Official: Clarkson dropped from Top Gear

Being sold by Vauxhall with all proceeds going to automotive industry charity BEN, the Astra is listed as an auction with an end date of 27 December.

The listing says the Astra is a five-door 1.6-litre Tech Line model – showing just 2,908 miles on the clock.

It features, as standard, 17-inch alloys and a digital radio system – but has also been fitted with racing seats as well as a five-point safety harness and full roll-cage.

The advert advises that the roll-cage means that the airbags have been disabled, so the Astra should not be driven on the road.

A Fiat Doblo with the Guinness World Record title of being the world’s fastest motorhome is currently for sale on eBay – with bids currently just over the £1,000 mark.

The Fiat Doblo’s diesel engine was replaced by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine from a Fiat Coupe Turbo. As standard it provides 219hp – but this one’s been tuned to give out an astonishing 342hp.

The conversion was done by specialists Creation Campers, before the team headed to Elvington Airfield near York for a high speed run. The RAF runway became known in recent years as the site where Richard Hammond was seriously injured after crashing a jet-powered car at 280mph.

On the day, the camper completed two runs – one into the wind, and one out of it. It clocked an impressive 149.7mph with the wind behind it, and 133.5mph heading into it.

The Guinness World Records took the average speed of 141.3mph for the official record.

Since then, its owner has fitted a new turbo, and is keen to point out it’s not just “an engine and a sleeping bag in the back”.

The Doblo is equipped with a kitchen with two hobs and a sink, as well as a toilet and bed area, and even 120 fibre optic lights.

The seller is inviting offers at around £10,000 but, at the time of writing, with 12 hours to go on the auction, it’s currently at £1,240.

If you want to own the fastest camper on the roads, check out the auction on eBay.
