Kia Stinger review

From £32,935

In GT S form, the Kia Stinger is huge fun, with explosive power providing the perfect accompaniment to its agile chassis.

  • Kia Stinger
  • For: Styling, equipment, brilliant GT S
  • Against: Dull interior, expensive for a Kia
  • Verdict: An undiscovered gem, especially in GT S form

The Stinger is a dramatic five-door ‘coupe’ with a 3.3-litre V6 hooligan as its flagship.

Kia had visions of muscling in on a segment dominated by the likes of BMW and Audi, but there are signs this particular experiment hasn’t worked out.

In 2018, just 3,820 Stingers were sold across Europe, which is why Kia will streamline the range in 2020. Only the £41k GT S model will remain on sale in the UK.

That’s a shame, because the Stinger is a highly credible car. Its muscular styling is matched by a cabin that’s high on quality and equipment, if a little lacking in theatre.

All versions are rear-wheel drive and feature an eight-speed transmission. The flagship GT S gets Brembo brakes to help tame its 370hp.

In GT S form, the Kia Stinger is huge fun, with explosive power providing the perfect accompaniment to its agile chassis.

Shame so few have taken the plunge.
