    The annual Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show is one of the highlights of the automotive calendar, bringing together some of the most extreme modified cars and trucks from around the world.

    Mainstream auto makers have increasingly taken an interest in SEMA, using it to highlight the creativity possible with their own products. The popularity of original (OEM) performance parts means even greater options for factory modifications.

    However, traditional tuning companies have not been forgotten, showcasing their endless capacity for innovation at SEMA. These are just some of the amazing cars and trucks on show in Las Vegas.

  • Plymouth GTX Electromod Concept

    Electrification has been a core part of recent SEMA shows, and the 2024 event is no different. The GTX Electromod Concept takes the iconic 1967 Plymouth muscle car, then adds a 335 horsepower electric drive module that forms part of the Mopar e-Crate conversion kit.

    Carbon fiber is used for the hood, along with the front splitter and custom low-profile rear spoiler. The exterior has been finished in modern Frostbite Blue paint, with a healthy dose of Satin Black covering the exterior trim.

    Inside, Mopar has added a custom dashboard, complete with a 160 mph speedometer, plus a gauge for monitoring the charge of the 384 lithium-ion battery cells.

    Modern Mopar performance products are also on show at SEMA, including the Dodge Charger SRT Daytona Banshee and Ram 1500 REV Tungsten.

    Both have made previous appearances at other events, but have been treated to a Dodge Viper GTS-style makeover for 2024.

    The Charger SRT Daytona Banshee is expected to be the most-powerful version of the new electric muscle car, with the potential for more than 1,000 horsepower.

    Mopar has treated the formidable 2500 Power Wagon to a comprehensive makeover for SEMA, starting with a bold Satin Stealth Sand exterior, which is combined with matte black and Header Orange highlights.

    A set of 20-inch black and Anthracite Gray Rhino Alpha wheels are equipped with 35-inch tires, plus there is an active cargo-rack storage system. Power comes from the standard 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 engine, hidden by a Mopar performance hood.

    Custom-designed seats are clad in brown and black premium Katzkin leather, trimmed with Raven and Mango suede accented by contrasting Copperhead Orange stitching.

    The new 2025 Ram 1500 RHO has been the focus of Mopar designers at SEMA 2024. This one wears custom Mopar Blue graphics that contrast with a satin metallic Diamond Black exterior.

    Powering the RHO is the new 3.0-liter Hurricane H/O SST engine, generating 540 horsepower and 521 lb-ft of torque. A dual Mopar exhaust system provides an aggressive note, and features five-inch dual wall tips with Omega M logos.

    Inside, custom black Nappa leather-wrapped front and rear seats by Alea feature Mopar Blue accents and suede inner bolsters.

    The 2024 SEMA show sees the launch of the Ford Custom Garage: a host of upgrade packages for Blue Oval-badged vehicles.

    These include the F-150 FP700S, which uses a standard F-150 XL Regular Cab two-wheel-drive truck as its starting point. A 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger kit has been added to the 5.0-liter V-8 engine, resulting in a thumping 700 horsepower.

    Also featured is a Ford Performance Lowering Kit, Ford Performance fender vent kit, and a cat-back sports exhaust system.

    Known as “Clyde”, this classic Ford F-100 has been created with help from truck tuner, Solomon Lunger.

    The bespoke F-100 has a high-performance 5.2-liter V-8 Ford Performance Raptor R crate engine, paired with a 3.8-liter Whipple supercharger. This results in a projected output of over 900 horsepower, along with more than 700 lb-ft of torque.

    Fat Fender Garage has supplied a Porterbuilt Stage Two coilover chassis, with exposed carbon fiber body panels, forged custom wheels, and a luxury leather interior also fitted.

    Ford has not one, but two models on show at SEMA that are inspired by the Bronco Wild Fund Project. Created by Ford for the return of the Bronco, the Wild Fund aims to help preserve and protect natural resources in North America.

    The Bronco Wild Fund Project Vehicle is based on the Big Bend four-door model, and comes with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine. The Ford Custom Garage concept includes alloy wheels in a special green color, plus a Bilstein-tuned Ford Performance suspension kit.

    Custom Katzkin Leather Seats are found inside, with Ford Performance tube doors and a power-operated soft top.

    The smaller Ford Bronco Sport has also received a Wild Fund Project makeover, starting with the latest 2025 Badlands Sasquatch model.

    Like its bigger brother, 17-inch Free Wheeling rims in a concept green color are fitted, as is a Ford Performance suspension kit.

    Custom graphics and Katzkin seat covers feature an outdoor theme.

    The Kia EV9 is already scooping-up accolades as one of the best three-row electric SUVs around. But the SEMA show sees it receive a hardcore off-road makeover.

    Custom front and rear bumpers are fitted, along with reinforced rocker panels. A 3.0-inch suspension lift kit is matched with a rugged tire and wheel combination.

    Completing the build is a custom roof rack, capable of holding anything from standard luggage containers to a bespoke roof tent. Bright-painted tow hooks are included, just in case you get a little too carried away.

    The PV5 range of all-electric panel vans and trucks has only just been announced by the Korean marque, but there has been no delay in demonstrating how this Kia could become more lifestyle-focused.

    The WKNDR’s suspension is lifted, with the obligatory rugged off-road tires also fitted. A modular interior can adapt to an endless number of needs, including a “Gear Head” feature that offers outside storage for equipment when the cabin is needed for living space.

    Solar panels and hydro turbine wheels are used to help recharge the PV5’s batteries.

    Along with its electric duo, Kia has a trio of SUV concepts inspired by Greek mythology. Displayed on the XPEL stand, the Sorento Gaia is inspired by the Goddess of Earth.

    A neutral color scheme has gold highlights, while black Fifteen52 alloy wheels wear Open Country Toyo tires.

    There is also a Yakima awning, an outdoor projector screen, and a Kicker outdoor soundbar for camping fun. Baja Design light bars and perimeter lights are fitted for good measure.

    Nissan brought a pair of modified Kicks crossover SUVs to SEMA for 2024, including this Baywatch-inspired Beach Patrol Concept.

    Beneath the custom exterior livery is a front skid plate, protected rocker rails, and a two-inch suspension lift. A set of 18-inch Nismo wheels are fitted with Yokohama Geolander all-terrain tires, along with plenty of additional lighting.

    The all-wheel-drive Kicks has been left mechanically unaltered, save for the addition of a custom Nismo sports exhaust system.

    Bringing a more sinister vibe to the Nissan Kicks is the Urban Shadow Concept, which wears moody Nismo exterior graphics.

    Custom Nismo coilover suspension has dropped the Kicks closer to the ground, making for a perfect stance over the 18-inch Nismo LM-RS6 alloy wheels.

    As with the Beach Patrol version, a custom Nismo dual-exit exhaust is fitted.

    Tailgating is a major theme for builds at SEMA 2024, with the 2025 Nissan Frontier getting the treatment here. This build is a comprehensive conversion, with the addition of camping equipment, leisure batteries, and even a portable fire pit.

    A Nismo off-road suspension kit has raised the Frontier’s ride height, along with 17-inch wheels and Yokohama Geolander tires. There is a Nismo cat-back performance exhaust for good measure.

    Two 43-inch TVs have been added, placed in protective outdoor cases, along with a rear-facing outdoor soundbar.

    A collaboration between Nissan Motorsports, Nissan Design America and Forsberg Racing has resulted in the attention-grabbing Frontier Tarmac Concept. Painted in new-for-2025 Afterburn Orange, its aggressive body kit makes extensive use of carbon fiber.

    Special 20-inch Nismo wheels have been fitted, along with adjustable Nismo coilover suspension and Nismo brakes. This all helps manage the more than 400 horsepower on offer, produced by a supercharged 3.8-liter V-6 engine.

    For the interior, there’s a pair of Recaro Sportster CS bucket seats, complemented by custom orange seat belts. The steering wheel is upholstered in grippy Alcantara, and carbon fiber trim is used extensively.

    As befits a premium brand, the all-new 2025 Infiniti QX80 SUV offers an upmarket take on the tailgating experience.

    Inside the trunk is an integrated TV screen, combined with bespoke 14- and 24-speaker Klipsch Premium Audio systems. It’s all trimmed in luxurious burgundy leather, with metal grilles matching the look of the Klipsch speakers throughout the cabin.

    On the outside, custom 24-inch alloy wheels are fitted, with air suspension dropping the vehicle lower to the ground. A matte-gray wrap is applied as a finishing touch.

    Toyota has gone big for SEMA 2024, bringing several concept cars to the show. These include the dramatic GR86 Rally Legend, which channels memories of racing games (and the Toyota Celica) from the 1990s.

    The GR86 gains the three-cylinder turbocharged engine from the GR Corolla, along with its all-wheel-drive layout. Custom coilover suspension helps to manage the 300 horsepower.

    A large Celica GT-Four-inspired spoiler, big rally mud flaps, extra lighting, and a performance exhaust are also part of the makeover. The whole package is wrapped in a livery that pays homage to Castrol-sponsored rally stars.

    An ode to Southern California’s surf culture, this Toyota 4Runner is intended as a throwback to time spent on So-Cal beaches during the 1980s. It includes re-engineering the 4Runner to be a two-door model, along with having a removable roof.

    A practice run was made on a previous-generation 4Runner before Toyota’s design team made the bold step to modify a brand-new 2025 model. Power comes from the 2.4-liter iForce engine, with a stainless steel exhaust system added.

    Waterproof flooring and a custom surfboard rack are included as well.

    Calty Design Research is Toyota’s North American design studio, based in Ann Arbor, MI. For SEMA, it has reimagined the all-new Land Cruiser 250, resulting in the open-air ROX 30 concept.

    More than 50 percent of the ROX 30 has been fabricated from scratch, with custom “skeleton” doors and a bespoke front-to-rear sliding soft-top roof. There is also a bespoke triple-bar roof rack, plus Calty-designed, 18-inch machined billet wheels.

  • Toyota Tacoma TRD ProRunner

    Designed with input from NASCAR legend and Baja racer, Jimmie Johnson, the Tacoma TRD ProRunner is a race-modified vehicle built to compete in the Stock Mid-Size off-road class.

    A conversion from four to two doors has been engineered, alongside fitment of TRD Pro’s FOX Quick Switch 3 suspension setup. The Tacoma’s load bed now houses a dedicated fuel cell and a spare tire carrier.

    The exterior livery pays tribute to Johnson’s iconic NASCAR paint schemes, as well as the classic TRD yellow, orange and red stripes.

    Toyota asked its Service Parts and Accessories Development (SPAD) team to create this Dakar racer-inspired take on the RAV4 for SEMA, bringing off-road endurance racer style to the compact SUV.

    SPAD engineers added bespoke long-travel suspension, increasing the ride height by two inches. Front and rear skid plates, a bespoke front bumper, and a large rear spoiler have also been fitted.

    “This Toyota RAV-X is more than just a concept; it’s a bold statement of what’s possible when innovation meets performance,” said Mike Tripp, vice president for marketing at Toyota Motor North America.

    When it comes to tailgating, more screens makes for a better experience, and the Toyota Ultimate Tailgate Tundra takes this to the next level.

    The truck bed has been transformed to house five 55-inch weatherproof outdoor screens, which are positioned to allow an optimal view from any angle. A rack-mounted 180 Dual+R-Filler canopy provides 185 square feet of shaded space.

    There is a JBL Club Marine Series sound system, incorporating an A5055 amplifier connected to four Club Marine tower speakers, while a Club Marine 600 amplifier drives a pair of 10-inch subwoofers.

    Unveiled earlier this year as part of Monterey Car Week, the Integra Type S HRC Prototype showcases a host of performance parts that can be fitted to Acura’s latest performance model.

    A number of functional aerodynamic items have been added, including a larger front splitter, higher-flow hood vents, side splitters and an adjustable carbon fiber rear wing with aluminum uprights. The extensive use of carbon fiber, plus the removal of the rear bench seat, has helped to save 200 lb.

    The 2.0-litre turbocharged VTEC engine gains a larger intercooler, twin oil coolers and a tuned, lightweight cat-back exhaust system. Coilover suspension, Brembo brakes, and Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R have been fitted as well.

    The HRC-developed Acura Integra Type S DE5 is designed, developed, and assembled inside Honda’s North American facilities and sold directly to race drivers across the region. During its debut season in the SRO TC America series, the DE5 took six wins.

    Earlier this year, IndyCar driver Katherine Legge used the DE5 to achieve a fifth in-class finish at the 2024 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

    At the SEMA show, Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) announced plans to produce both on- and off-road performance parts. The Honda Pilot on display here demonstrates possible off-road equipment.

    The HRC Pilot Prototype is fitted with HRC-designed experimental products that are intended to increase the Pilot’s capability, while also providing hints at how new parts could be used.

    Britain’s oldest active automotive manufacturer has used SEMA 2024 to unveil its new AC Ace Classic electric sports car. Instead of a high-capacity V-8 engine, the retro-styled roadster features a bespoke Tremec EV powertrain. A 72 kWh battery pack offers a potential range of 200 miles.

    A total of 300 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque goes to the rear wheels – all in a car that weighs just 2,425 lb. As a result, the AC can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds, plus hit a top speed of 130 mph.

    Just 49 examples will be made, with prices starting from $275,000 before taxes.

    Based in Spring Green, WI, Jim and Mike Ring have brought three new restomods to SEMA for 2024. Based on a 1972 Chevrolet K5 Blazer, more than 3,700 hours were spent on building “Tuka”.

    The tailgate and box sides have been raised by two inches, while the fiberglass rear top features a panoramic sunroof. Inside the bespoke cabin, a carbon-fiber dashboard houses instruments from Dakota Digital, as well as a billet-machined and 3D-printed gear selector, handbrake and switches, plus a carbon-fiber steering wheel.

    Bringing the noise is a GM Performance 6.2-liter LS3 V-8, channeling 525 horsepower and 487 ft-lbs of torque through a Bowler Tru-Street GM 4L60E automatic transmission. A set of 18-inch HRE wheels are finished in bronze.

    One of the most powerful cars at the 2024 SEMA show is Invadr, a custom-built 1987 Buick Grand National. At the heart of this retro classic is a Duttweiler Performance twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V-6, capable of producing up to 2,000 horsepower at 50 lb of boost.

    To make Invadr more usable on a daily basis, it has been tuned to deliver 1,246 horsepower when using E85 fuel. A Bowler Tremec T-56 Magnum six-speed manual transmission is mated to a carbon-fiber drag-race shaft, and attempts to channel all that power to the rear wheels.

    Penske three-way adjustable shocks are found on all four corners, with Brembo six-piston calipers grabbing carbon-ceramic discs. There is even an integrated, nitrogen-powered air-jack system, lifting the car by 15.1 inches for quick tire changes.

    Completing the trio of cars from Ringbrothers at SEMA is Infected, a restomod version of a 1970 Plymouth ’Cuda. A tribute to the wildest days of Mopar muscle car madness, Infected took 5,600 hours to come to life.

    Changes included extending the wheelbase by 1.5 inches, plus a host of neat bodywork tweaks that maintain the feel of the original ’Cuda. Beneath a bespoke carbon fiber hood is Mopar’s supercharged Hemi V-8, generating 807 horsepower and 717 ft-lb of torque.

    The ’Cuda also features Fox RS SV coilovers, Baer brakes, and HRE Wheels Muscle Series 105 three-piece wheels, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

    As Japan’s largest oil company, ENEOS is responsible for providing lubricants to many OEM companies. For SEMA, the company has brought along two new custom creations, plus two cars entered into its annual Show Car Contest.

    This 1971 Datsun 240Z, built by John Lau, was inspired by the anime manga series Wangan Midnight. A new widebody design includes a custom front splitter and rear diffuser, and houses Work Meister M1 wheels that are 13 inches wide at the rear.

    The engine from a 280ZX features a Garrett G35-900 turbocharger, and is connected to a Nissan G37 six-speed transmission. Finally, everything has been finished in Porsche Paint-to-Sample San Marino Blue Metallic.

    Alongside the Datsun on the ENEOS stand is a first-generation Toyota Celica belonging to veteran racer, Formula Drift team manager and engineer, Stephan Papadakis. Found in a barn, the Celica has become a social media sensation while being restored and enhanced.

    Stripped back to bare metal, the Celica’s rare 18R-G four-cylinder, eight-valve, twin-cam engine was fully rebuilt and bored to 2.2 liters. Now making 170 horsepower, larger brakes and upgraded suspension have been added.

    Flared fenders, a lip spoiler, and a rear wing are new additions, with 15-inch three-piece wheels inspired by Tom’s heritage design.

    As the runner-up in the 2024 ENEOS x Pit+Paddock Show Car Contest, Leo Barrit was invited to SEMA to display his custom fourth-generation Toyota Supra.

    Owned by Barrit for the last 12 years, modifications include a fully rebuilt 2JZ-GTE VVTi engine, which has been stroked to become a 3.3-liter block. A custom twin-turbo setup sees the Supra now producing more than 1,100 horsepower.

    There is also a unique Varis widebody aero kit, complemented by a Varis carbon fiber hood, canards and GT rear wing.

    The winner of the 2024 ENEOS x Pit+Paddock Show Car Contest was Justin Cashmore’s incredible Renault Dauphine. Found in the desert in 2017, the car even became a Hot Wheels Legends Tour Finalist in 2019.

    On the outside is a Group 5 racing-inspired carbon fiber widebody, which makes the Renault an incredible 22-inches broader. Behind the rear firewall is a 2.8-liter Volkswagen VR6 engine that generates 230 hp.

    Legendary German lighting company Hella is celebrating its 125th anniversary in 2024, and has brought two vehicles to SEMA in partnership with Jimco Racing.

    Jimco Racing is also commemorating 50 years of off-road performance in 2024, and is displaying its all-new 1-2/1600 Desert Buggy at SEMA. Intended to offer an affordable route into racing, the new buggy is powered by a 1.6-liter air-cooled Volkswagen engine.

    Hella has provided a Black Magic Tough Double Row Curved light bar, six-inch Blade lights and X-treme 4.3-inch LED lights.

    Placed outside SEMA’s Central Hall is the Jimco Racing Spec Trophy Truck. Powered by a Chevrolet 525 RLB crate engine, it uses an RDE T400 transmission and Fortin underdrive.

    Suspension is taken care of by Fox Shox and bump stops, while the truck rides on 17-inch Method Wheels, fitted with 40-inch BF Goodrich Baja T/A tires.

    There are more Hella lights, including the Black Magic Tough Double Row Curved light bar above the windshield, plus a total of seven six-inch Blade lights on the front bumper. At the rear, a Black Magic Tough Single Row light bar has been fitted as a chase light.

    Urban Automotive has emerged as the tuner of choice for celebrities in the United States. Clients have included TV stars Kim Kardashian and Scott Disick, the latter owning several Urban Automotive-modified vehicles.

    The UK-based company has its new tuned Range Rover Sport on display at SEMA, highlighting the extensive carbon fiber bodykit that modifies almost every exterior component.

    Customers are able to choose between 23- and 24-inch alloy wheels. A Milltek Sport performance exhaust system is also available.

    California-based Unplugged Performance has become one of the leading specialists in modifying Tesla products. More recently, it has moved towards preparing EVs for fleet use through its Up:Fit division.

    SEMA 2024 sees the debut of the nation’s first Tesla Model S Plaid specifically designed for law enforcement use. Intended for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Motorsports, it marks a step towards a full public service role.

    Changes include a new wiring harness to accommodate extra lighting, a push bumper, and high- and low-frequency emergency sirens and public alert systems. Upgraded brakes and forged lightweight wheels are part of the package to handle the 1,000 horsepower on offer.

    The Tesla Cybertruck may be divisive, but Unplugged Performance certainly believes it can demonstrate the future of customization.

    It has brought a fleet of 12 modified Cybertrucks to SEMA, showcasing parts that focus on performance, off-road ability, and fleet practicality.

    Ten Unplugged Performance Cybertrucks will wear bespoke PFF wraps, developed with Flexishield, highlighting the alternatives to exposed stainless steel body panels. A variety of beadlock wheels, in 18- and 20-inch sizes, will also be showcased.

    There will also be an Up:Fit enhanced, patrol-ready Police Tesla Cybertruck, with specialized lighting and electronics, plus a pursuit-rated wheel and tire package.
