Ford has launched the new EcoSport in Europe in a unique way – by offering 500 cars for Ford fans to reserve via Facebook.
120 new Ford EcoSport Limited Edition models will be offered to UK buyers; they have the Ford SYNC AppLink system as standard, with a bundle of apps thrown in for free too.
Priced from £16,995, the EcoSport Limited Edition is only offered in metallic black, but does give a choice of either 1125hp 1.0-litere EcoBoost petrol or 91hp 1.5-litre TDCi diesel.
To complete the deal, potential EcoSport buyers follow the link from Facebook to a dedicated website, before processing the order by presenting a special reservation voucher at a Ford UK dealer.
The rest of the EcoSport range will be available to order at dealers via conventional means and deliveries will begin in the UK from spring 2014. Only offered in Titanium trim, prices start from £14,995.
Standard equipment is thus extensive: climate control, all-round electric windows, daytime running lights and rake-adjust rear seat. There’s even a Titanium X Pack that includes the features fitted to the Limited Edition car. Less lavish Zetec versions are expected to follow in time.
The EcoSport is Ford’s entrant into the burgeoning supermini crossover sector, popularised by the Nissan Juke and Vauxhall Mokka. The Renault Captur and Peugeot 2008 have already made a strong start and Ford will be hoping the EcoSport follows the trend.
