Harman already has Bowers & Wilkins, Harman Kardon, Infinity, JBL, Mark Levinson and Revel in its car audio portfolio: adding B&O will further expand its reach.
Bang & Olufsen systems are currently offered in Audi, Aston Martin, BMW and Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
“Harman has earned its leadership position in car audio by designing and engineering the most technologically sophisticated sound systems in the world and building the strongest portfolio of brands that help our customers distinguish their own unique brand propositions,” said Dinesh C. Paliwal, Harman chairman, president and CEO.
“Bang & Olufsen is a distinctive brand that will complement our existing premium branded offerings and strengthen Harman position in this segment. While Bang & Olufsen branded solutions will continue at the top of the high-end luxury segment, we will rapidly grow B&O Play branded solutions in the larger mass luxury market.
The €145 million deal will secure Harman all of Bang & Olufsen’s customer programmes, plus licences for the Bang & Olufsen and Bang & Olufsen Play brands within the automotive sector.
The deal is now awaiting regulatory approval; when it’s confirmed, it will see the current parc of 25 million cars using Harman-supplied audio and infotainment systems rapidly grow further…
