You're most likely to crash this Saturday at 11am

Research has found that motorists are most likely to be involved in a crash on Saturday 25th July at 11am – with summer the most dangerous season on UK roads.

Data from the DVLA reveals that the most road fatalities and serious injuries happen in July, while research by dash cam manufacturer Smart Witness suggests Saturday 25th July could be the single most dangerous day on Britain’s roads this year.

According to the DVLA, 2,330 serious accidents will take place in July and 2,148 in August.

That’s substantially more than the 1,578 in January and 1,544 in February – despite the adverse weather conditions usually experienced at this time of year.

But with schools having broken up for summer and most workers feeling flush after pay-day, many of us are expected to hit the road this Saturday.

The busiest time on the roads is expected to be 11am when the ‘great escape’ begins in earnest – meaning the roads are likely to be at their most dangerous.

‘Perfect storm’

SmartWitness international sales director Mark Berry said: “The summer months have the highest number of road accidents and Saturday July 25th is likely to provide the perfect storm for poor driver conditions.

“It will be first day of the summer holidays for many families and there will be extremely large numbers of motorists taking to the roads.

“Cars will be packed full of children and luggage, which means that drivers will be more stressed and distracted than usual, as they make their way to airports and holiday destinations.

“As a result this day is expected to have the highest number of motor accidents of the whole of the year.”

Research has also found that Saturdays are the worst day for crashes as drivers are nearly twice as likely to be distracted compared to weekdays.
