A Fiat Doblo with the Guinness World Record title of being the world’s fastest motorhome is currently for sale on eBay – with bids currently just over the £1,000 mark.
The Fiat Doblo’s diesel engine was replaced by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine from a Fiat Coupe Turbo. As standard it provides 219hp – but this one’s been tuned to give out an astonishing 342hp.
The conversion was done by specialists Creation Campers, before the team headed to Elvington Airfield near York for a high speed run. The RAF runway became known in recent years as the site where Richard Hammond was seriously injured after crashing a jet-powered car at 280mph.
On the day, the camper completed two runs – one into the wind, and one out of it. It clocked an impressive 149.7mph with the wind behind it, and 133.5mph heading into it.
The Guinness World Records took the average speed of 141.3mph for the official record.
Since then, its owner has fitted a new turbo, and is keen to point out it’s not just “an engine and a sleeping bag in the back”.
The Doblo is equipped with a kitchen with two hobs and a sink, as well as a toilet and bed area, and even 120 fibre optic lights.
The seller is inviting offers at around £10,000 but, at the time of writing, with 12 hours to go on the auction, it’s currently at £1,240.
