Over 1,000 miles of gridlock on London's streets due to bus strike

Today’s London bus strike has caused chaos on the city’s roads according to sat nav experts TomTom.

Two thirds of London buses were reportedly not running this morning following strike action by thousands of members of the Unite union.

According to TomTom, 8.30am saw 2,156 separate congestion hotspots across the city – as well as 1,282 miles of tailbacks.

This was more than double the usual tailbacks during peak Tuesday morning rush hour, which averages 501 miles.

The worst congestion was on the A12 in Essex heading towards London, with drivers sitting in stationary traffic for up to two hours in 15 miles of tailbacks.
