Buy this bonkers people carrier and do your bit for charity

Fancy doing something funny for money? How about investing in a 210hp turbocharged Toyota Picnic people carrier – or a Gran Turismo Supra?

Toyota’s urging people to do just that – auctioning off two rare cars from its own heritage collection in a bid to raise money for Comic Relief.

The story goes that Toyota’s press department was curious about what a Picnic would be like with the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine as used in the Celica GT4.

So, they poached a convenient Picnic (the company car of Toyota’s press fleet administrator, in fact), and set to work making the Toyota Picnic Sport Turbo. Alongside the engine change and remap, the suspension was lowered, a sports exhaust was fitted and the seats were re-trimmed in red leather.

The result was a road-legal people carrier that could hit 62mph in 7.5 seconds.

Toyota Supra

Meanwhile, also going under the hammer is one of the last UK spec Supras ever made. It features full Castrol race livery to replicate the car used in the Gran Turismo Playstation game – while under the bonnet, there’s a 3.0-litre straight-six engine producing around 370hp.

As an official partner to Red Nose Day 2015, Toyota is selling both vehicles via a closed auction held on PistonHeads. Bidding is now open and will remain so until 13 March. If you’re interested, check out the adverts (Picnic and Supra) and contact Toyota with a sealed bid. The company’s even welcoming test drives at £150 a shot.
