SsangYong Korando review

From £19,995

Korando SUV occupies the middle ground between budget and mainstream. It's good enough to rub shoulders with the volume brands.

  • SsangYong Korando
  • For: Equipment, price, warranty
  • Against: Engines lack refinement, cabin quality
  • Verdict: Korando SUV occupies the middle ground between budget and mainstream

There was a time when you bought a SsangYong for its long warranty, towing ability and long list of standard equipment.

As the new SsangYong Korando demonstrates, though, the Korean company’s products have improved to the point where they can rub shoulders with the volume brands.

That warranty is still there – now extended to an excellent seven years and 150,000 miles – but the Korando’s styling is more appealing and it drives with more dynamism than before.

Prices start from £19,995 for a two-wheel-drive model, rising to around £27k for a four-wheel-drive Korando with all the trimmings.

The petrol engine is the best choice, although the diesel offers superior towing potential.

Cabin quality remains a notch or two below European standards, but there’s no doubting the amount of kit.

If its engines were a little more refined, the Korando would be a great all-rounder.
