DS 3 Crossback review

From £24,665

The DS 3 Crossback is a high-rise hatchback with SUV styling, designed to take on the Mini Countryman, Audi Q2 and BMW X2.

  • DS 3 Crossback 2020
  • For: Bold styling, quirky interior, electric option
  • Against: Expensive, poor ride quality
  • Verdict: Design-led crossover is not without appeal

The DS 3 Crossback is a high-rise hatchback with SUV styling, designed to take on the Mini Countryman, Audi Q2 and BMW X2.

Most will opt for the 1.2-litre petrol engine, which comes in three outputs: 100hp with a six-speed manual gearbox, or 130hp and 155hp with an eight-speed automatic.

A 100hp 1.5 diesel offers CO2 emissions of just 97g/km, while an electric E-Tense version sits at the top of the range.

You can’t accuse DS of sitting on the fence when it comes to design – and the Crossback is even more distinctive inside.

Standard kit on the entry-level Elegance includes a seven-inch touchscreen and rear parking sensors. The other trim levels are Performance Line, Prestige, Ultra Prestige and E-Tense.

The Crossback feels short on engagement, with a ride that’s floaty at speed and harsh around town.

Prices are worryingly close to the Q2, so many will choose the superior image and abilities of the German instead.
