Volvo XC60 review

From £40,315

The Volvo XC6 takes on the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLC – its cause helped by plenty of equipment and superb safety credentials.

  • Volvo XC60 2020
  • For: Safety, styling, comfort
  • Against: Lacks fizz, average space
  • Verdict: The most comfortable car in its class

The Volvo XC60 offers the desirable attributes of the XC90 in a more compact package, albeit without seven seats.

Costing from around £40,000, and it takes on the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLC – its cause helped by plenty of equipment and superb safety credentials.

There are three core trim levels – Momentum, R-Design and Inscription – along with an entry-level Edition model and a sporty Polestar Engineered hybrid.

The XC60’s interior is an exceedingly pleasant place to be. The seats are soft and embracing, the dashboard oozes sophistication and quality is a match for any German rival.

Luggage space is only average for this class, though.

Most models come with all-wheel drive and an automatic transmission as standard. The Volvo’s natural habitat is urban driving and long-distance cruising, where it combines comfort with an easygoing manner.

Take your time and it’s one of the most satisfying SUVs on sale.
