Renault Zoe review

From £26,995

Simply by being one of the first electric cars to market, the Renault Zoe has established a firm foothold.

For: Prices, equipment, new interior

Against: Slow home charging

Verdict: Pioneering electric car remains a compelling choice

Simply by being one of the first electric cars to market, the Renault Zoe has established a firm foothold. Faced with a growing list of rivals, however, the Zoe is beginning to look a little dated.

It manages to hold its own thanks to a generous level of equipment, keen pricing and regular special offers.

Following an update in 2019, the Zoe is also better inside, with a classy cabin similar to the new Clio supermini.

Prices start from around £27,000 after the government’s plug-in car grant is deducted, with all models boasting a 52kWh battery.

Up to 245 miles of range should be achievable, with charging times ranging from nine hours 25 minutes via a 7kW home wallbox, to 30 minutes for 90 miles of range via a DC rapid charger.

It’s an odd car to drive, not helped by a perched seating position, but the Zoe remains a likeable EV.
