Peugeot 2008 review

From £21,365

The Peugeot 2008 is a smart looking compact SUV and versatile family car. It also comes in fully electric e-2008 guise.

  • Peugeot 2008
  • For: Premium cabin, spacious interior, electric e-2008 version
  • Against: Looks a little awkward, driving position won’t suit all
  • Verdict: One of the best compact crossovers

Peugeot is on a roll. The 3008 and 5008 are two of the best family SUVs you can buy, while the 208 has made waves in the supermini sector.

The 2008 offers more of the same. Peugeot’s sculpted styling is arguably less successful here, but in many other respects it’s like a smaller version of the 3008. And that’s no bad thing.

There are two engines: a 1.2-litre petrol, available in three outputs, and a 1.5 diesel. All are able and efficient, but the electric e-2008 offers the lowest running costs, plus up to 206 miles of range.

As a driving machine, the 2008 is straightforward and inoffensive – nothing more. Where it earns points are its spacious and upmarket cabin, high seating position, generous level of equipment and keen prices.

The e-2008 is significantly more expensive to buy, albeit on par with electric rivals. Prices start from £30,730 including the government plug-in car grant.
