REVIEW

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class is one of the best-selling cars in the UK.

At its heart is the finest cabins of any hatchback – particularly once you’ve added a few options. It looks modern and feels premium.

There are three grades of instrument panel, all fully digital, with the top-spec offering a pair of 10.25-inch screens. All use the same MBUX infotainment system, a generation on from that in the flagship S-Class.

You could buy an A-Class on the strength of its interior and technology alone.

The A-Class is, at best, mediocre to drive, with a ride that’s a little firm, especially on AMG Line models with 18-inch alloy wheels.

The 1.3-litre petrol engine is a little lacklustre, but many buyers will opt for the 1.5 or 2.0 diesel units.

The A-Class is also available as a four-door saloon, as well as the Mercedes-AMG A35 and A45 hot hatches.
