Citroen C3 Aircross review

From £17,320

The Citroen C3 Aircross is let down by mediocre dynamics and questionable interior quality, but we love its sense of fun.

  • Facelifted Citroen C3 Aircross 2021
  • For: Bold styling, standard equipment, practicality
  • Against: Lacklustre dynamics, some interior quality issues
  • Verdict: Practical and makes a statement

The Citroen C3 Aircross is effectively a replacement for the old C3 Picasso, which highlights the increasing shift among car buyers from small MPVs to compact SUVs.

It’s a funky looking thing, especially if you opt for one of the bolder colour combinations, plus some personalisation options. It’s also usefully practical, with 520 litres of luggage space – extending to 1,289 litres with the rear seats folded (for comparison, a Volkswagen Golf hatchback holds 3801,237 litres).

Even the entry-level C-Series model is well-equipped, with climate control air-con, a seven-inch touchscreen and rear parking sensors. Shine (£19,890) and Shine Plus (£21,800) add a touch more dazzle.

There are two engines to choose from: a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol and a 1.6 diesel. The petrol is offered with a six-speed automatic transmission, but a six-speed manual comes as standard.

The optional Grip Control traction system is a must-have upgrade if you intend to venture off-road. It’s a snip at £300.

Overall, the C3 Aircross is let down by mediocre dynamics and questionable interior quality, but we love its sense of fun.
