Audi Q7 review

From £57,695

Audi’s flagship SUV is suitably big, bold and brash. Launched in 2015, it oozes luxury, with an interior that’s as good as any rival.

  • Audi Q7 2020
  • For: Cabin quality, interior space, technology
  • Against: Expensive, cramped third-row seats
  • Verdict: Quality-rich SUV that’s high on tech

Audi’s flagship SUV is suitably big, bold and brash. There are two core models: the standard Q7 and sporty SQ7, the latter powered by a twin-turbo V8 diesel capable of propelling it to 62mph in just 4.8 seconds.

The entry-level 45 TDI diesel produces 231hp, the 50 TDI manages 286hp, while the 55 TFSI petrol delivers 340hp. Quattro all-wheel drive is standard on all models.

As the cheapest and most efficient engine, the 3.0-litre V6 diesel (45 TDI) is the easiest to recommend. The Q7 majors on comfort rather than precision, with its air suspension delivering a cushion-soft ride if you resist the lure of huge alloy wheels.

Inside, you’ll find a near-faultless and high-tech cabin, plus a huge amount of passenger and luggage space.

As is common for seven-seat SUVs, the third row is best reserved for small children, although sliding the middle seats forward provides more legroom.
