Audi SQ7 TDI (2016)

The world's most powerful diesel SUV is a £70,970 Audi

Audi SQ7 TDI (2016)The Audi SQ7 TDI is the world’s most powerful SUV and the 435 hp off-roader is now available to order in the UK with prices starting from £70,970.

The 4.0-litre V8 BiTDI engine boasts the first volume production electric turbocharger in the world and Audi claims the electric powered compressor (EPC) tech “consigns ‘turbo lag’ to history”.

The SQ7 TDI can accelerate from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds, despite weighing 2.3 tonnes. Yet the big seven-seat Audi SQ7 TDI can also average 39.2mpg and emits 190g/km CO2 from its quad chrome-tipped exhausts.

Your £70,970 actually buys an Audi SUV with three turbochargers. The two regular sequential turbos are supported by the additional EPC turbo; because it doesn’t need exhaust gasses to be flowing in order to work, it responds in just 250 milliseconds.

Audi has, however, had to fit a brand new 48-volt electrical system to power it, complete with separate 48-volt battery in the boot. But this does also mean it’s able to fit the SQ7 with an electromechanical active anti-roll feature, also powered by the 48-volt system.

The SQ7 TDI can even be fitted with Audi’s rear sport differential, something normally reserved for sporty RS models. Rear-wheel steering is available too, for even more of a tech overload.

The Audi SQ7 TDI can be ordered at Audi dealers (and configured online) now; first deliveries begin next month.
