Usually, car awards are judged by experts. People working full time in the industry. Reviewers have driven every new car on the market, so are well placed to make an overall judgement. But as there are now so many well-established new car awards gongs out there, introducing a new take on new car awards honours requires a different approach.
Auto Trader’s New Car Awards are thus different. First introduced in 2017, they’re chosen by car owners themselves, and awarded to vehicles of all different shapes and sizes. Instead of judges deciding, says Auto Trader, these awards are the verdicts of car owners.
Last year, 10 awards were handed out, including the people’s choice for Auto Trader New Car of the Year, the Jaguar XF.
Now, the 2018 New Car Awards are coming up, and Auto Trader wants your help. If you own a car aged less than three years old, and it’s still on sale today, and you’re willing to spare a few minutes online, it’s time to have your say.
What’s in it for you? First, the knowledge that you’re among those helping decide some of this year’s award-winning cars. The writer of this news story is on the World Car Awards jury and can confirm it’s a great feeling to know you’ve had an input.
Some car manufacturers use the New Car Awards logo in promotional materials. How good would it feel if your top pick was seen in the press with such a seal of approval?
There’s also potentially some cash in it. Someone at random will themselves be awarded a prize of £500 – which, if they’re people like us, would immediately open up the world of £500 or less bargains on Auto Trader…
To get you in the mood, here’s a run-down of the cars that won last year. Will you be having a say in this year’s winners?
