Volkswagen lowers entry price of T-Roc, Arteon

The first batch of Volkswagen T-Roc arrive in UK dealers later this month – and to further rouse strong interest in the new crossover SUV, ordering has opened for the new entry-level S trim.

This takes the starter price for the T-Roc down to under £19,000: a 1.0 TSI 115 S is priced from £18,950. But if that is far too cheap, Volkswagen has broadened the other end of the range as well. The new 2.0 TDI 150 4Motion SEL costs from £28,345.

In a sign of the times, this TDI T-Roc is actually the first diesel-engined model to join the range: all pre-orders to date have been for petrol variants.

The T-Roc is expected to quickly become a top-10 best-seller for Volkswagen, as the British SUV boom continues. It’s not the only crossover on the way from VW either, bosses remind us: the smaller T-Cross, a rival to the Nissan Juke, also arrives in 2018.

Meanwhile, Volkswagen has also made the Arteon range cheaper. The swoopy four-door coupe executive car, which sits above the Passat saloon and estate line, is now available with a smaller 1.5-litre TSI Evo 150 engine, in either Elegance or R-Line trim.

This new motor makes the Arteon a significantly cheaper proposition: prices for the 1.5 TSI Evo 150 Elegance start from £31,005.

Volkswagen dealers are also preparing for the new Polo supermini, which arrives in January 2018. In readiness, Volkswagen has expanded the number of models available to preorder: a 75hp 1.0-litre TSI engine is offered in SE and Beats trim, and there’s a 115hp 1.0-litre TSI in fancy SEL trim.

Prices for the new TSI Polo variants start from £15,060.
