The Volkswagen Golf Mk6 has been voted Used Car of the Year 2013 by a team of judges from What Car? magazine.
The experts reckon a 2013 Volkswagen Golf 1.4 TSI SE 5dr is the best used car you can buy in Britain right now: prices for their choice motor start from £8700, or £8300 on the used market.
Why? It’s great to drive, very refined, extremely practical and boasts exceptional interior quality. The SE trim is also pretty well stocked for a Golf.
The 1.4-litre TSI engine is a fuel-efficient petrol alternative to the ubiquitous diesel that’s much cheaper to buy.
But the key reason the VW Golf 1.4 TSI SE 5dr is Used Car of the Year 2013 is because prices have now dropped to a more realistic level. A 2010 example can be found on the private market for little more than £8000 and prices of the Mk6 TSI actually start from around £6000.
“Generous value for money,” said What Car?
Vauxhall also scooped several Used Car of the Year prizes, including the coveted Used Car Manufacturer of the Year, while Honda was the reader’s most trusted choice.
