Vauxhall Adam Rocks to debut at Geneva Motor Show

Vauxhall Adam Rocks 5Vauxhall has revealed its new production-ready Adam Rocks ahead of its public debit at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.

The new mini crossover can’t match the Fiat Panda Cross for all-wheel drive ability, but it does have a fully retuned chassis that’s 15mm higher and boasts a wider stance. Huge 17-inch and 18-inch wheels will be idea for, ahem, rocks climbing.

More importantly, it also has the necessary standout crossover body styling, complete with anthracite body cladding, distinctive trapezoidal grille, LED daytime running lights, silver skid plates front and rear and a big integrated roof spoiler.

Rather impressively, Vauxhall also promises to ‘introduce’ nine exterior paint colours, including the completely unmissable Goldbusters of the show car.

Another detail setting the Adam Rocks apart is its full length electric folding canvass roof, which zips from fully closed to fully open in a barely believable five seconds. It doesn’t negatively affect torsional rigidity, hatchback opening or boot space, and is offered in three colours: Black, Sweet Coffee or Light Oak.

Coffee and T3

Given such a distinctive exterior, anything other than a standout interior would be a disappointment. Vauxhall doesn’t disappoint. The Adam Rocks has a choice of two special interior colourschemes: one has peanut-coloured fabric/Morrocana seats with matching door panels, steering wheel, gearshift and handbrake, plus ‘surf’ trim.

The other has dark brown coffee bean seats with a black interior colourscheme but bright blue stitching. Sounds quite something.

On the engine front, it’s offered with the same engines as today’s Adam range, but you don’t want either the 1.2-litre or 1.4-litre motors. You want the new 115hp 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo ECOTEC engine – or, failing that, at least the 90hp alternative. A brand new design, it’s set to give the Vauxhall Adam the mechanical sophistication and vibrancy it’s lacked from launch.

“Adam Rocks combines the toughness of a crossover with the coolness of open air driving,” said Stuart Harris, Vauxhall’s Head of Carline Brand. “It’s the perfect Adam for active drivers wanting to stand out from the crowd.”

But how much? That, we wont know until it goes on sale in the summer, with deliveries due in the autumn.
