Mercedes-Benz has teased its new X3 and X4 rival ahead of its reveal at the 2015 Shanghai Motor Show.
The German manufacturer said: “The Concept GLC Coupé is a near-production-standard study which transforms the successful GLE Coupé formula into a more compact segment. The dynamically expressive show car combines typical coupé stylistic features with the sensual and pure design idiom of forthcoming Mercedes SUVs.”
The Mercedes-Benz GLC, expected to arrive later this year, will replace the outgoing GLK (which isn’t currently sold in the UK).
Based on the C-class executive saloon, the GLC will feature a modular platform and an interior set to challenge rivals such as the BMW X3, X4, Audi Q5 and Land Rover Discovery Sport. It’s unlikely to be offered with seven seats, however.
It’ll feature the same engine line-up as the C-Class, meaning a range of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines.
It’s likely that hybrid versions could follow – as well as a hot AMG version.
