The covers are barely off the new McLaren 570S (pictured above) and already the firm is preparing to launch a second Sports Series model – the 540C is to debut at the 2015 Shanghai Motor Show.
As its name suggests, the 540C will produce 540hp, and will be a little more comfort-orientated than the 570S debuting this week at the 2015 New York Motor Show – again, as its name suggests…
It will be similar in ethos to the McLaren 625C, an Asia-only variant of the McLaren 650S that the firm said was its “most refined model to date” at launch late in 2014.
The firm hasn’t revealed whether the 540C will be restricted only to Asia.
To be revealed ahead of the 2015 Shanghai Motor Show on April 22-29th, the new 540C will likely use a more compliant suspension than the 570S, with softer spring rates and a more road-biased state of tune.
Even though it has 30hp less power, though, it’s unlikely to be much slower than the ballistic 570S: that car can do 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds and go on to 204mph, way ahead of most sports car rivals.
We’ll find out more about the new McLaren 540C in the build up to the 2015 Shanghai Motor Show, which gets underway from April 20th.
