The Ford Mustang is 50 years old this week and to mark the occasion, Ford wants as many of us as possible to sign an electronic birthday card to the iconic car.
And if enough people sign it, the car that has 6.3 million fans on Facebook may get the birthday present of a Guinness World Record title!
Ford says more than 50,000 signatures and messages on the e-birthday card are needed to set a new world record, hence its desire to get as many people signing up as possible.
At the time of writing, there were already more than 32,000 signatures. Ford car manager Steve Ling will be hoping the other 18,000 sign up before the car’s birthday this Thursday.
“The spirit of Mustang infuses everything we do at Ford,” he said. “Mustang inspires a feeling of freedom and independence for drivers and fans, and it helps to inspire everyone at Ford to create the best products we can for all of our customers in every segment.”
Mustang’s 50th birthday week
Other events planned on 17 April include a new 2015 Mustang on the observation step of the Empire State Building, lots of celebrations by the Mustang Club of America in association Ford, plus Mustang convoy road trips.
Ford employees at Ford Motor Company HQ in Dearborn will also hold their own celebrations.
Expect some surprises on the Ford stand at the 2014 New York Motor Show as well: come back later in the week for more on the 50th anniversary of the car that, at long last, is officially on its way to Britain…
